Album Review: Big Cat Love by Smash Fashion
Review by Joseph Timmons: Xombiewoof Magazine
A Swelling Burst of energetic rock in the sound of the 60’s / 70’ Glam Rock / Love Anthem Style, Smash Fashion is not a throwback but a fast forward to the rebirth if high life and power chord rebellion. Big Cat Love is a serenade to the new generation and gives reverence to “long live rock & roll” idealism in a manner that T-Rex and Gary Glitter would salute.
Los Angeles based rock dandies, Smash Fashion, features an all-star lineup led by the iconic Roger Deering with ex members of London Quireboys (Nigel Mogg) on bass, Finnish glam rock legends, Smack (Repo) on drums and Rock City Angels (Lloyd Stuart Casson), on guitars. The band has been entertaining audiences with their great songs and explosive stage show since 2004. The boys in the band have to history and will teach you to rock.
Smash Fashions newest album Big Cat Love is 12 tracks of the Sensual Zodiac, and every sign is represented. Could Smash Fashion be the next Fab Four of the American invasion? Self-titled “Dandy Rock” they stride the stage of the mind with psychedelic imagery and songs of the Eros, with lighting fast playing skills and a sense of the madcap, their album Big Cat Love is Footloose and Fun, just a bit trippy but seriously well balanced and produced with the staying power of Don Juan…. If you know what I mean (Nudge, Nudge)
Titles like Stay Off My La La, Super Glam and the title track Big Cat Love they are multi-talented as well as multi-faceted. On Big Cat Love there is definitely something for everyone and is a glittery harbinger of good music to come and is long overdue.
With two full length releases under their belt, A Gentlemen’s Guide to Sophisticated Savagery from 2006 and Don’t Pet The Sweaty Things from 2009 and their recent hit single, Blame It On The Brandy have set Smash Fashion for the next decade as trend setters. Electric Pudding Records is their launching and sustaining label, and with Big Cat Love Smash Fashion have cultivated a worldwide following.
Smash Fashion’s broad appeal has seen them opening shows with such legends as Ian Hunter, Arthur Lee and Love, The Zombies, Cheap Trick; 80s rockers such as Psychedelic Furs, The Alarm and Missing Persons; and current rockers like JET, Tsar; pop masters The 88 and UK sensations, Orson. To quote a statement from their web site, “Smash Fashion is that rare breed that can Rock any audience” and I would definitely have to agree!
