New Video by Brother O’ Brother

Starting in the Summer of 2013, Brother O’ Brother began making music with one major message in mind, love. Love’s components, makeup, societal lack, and possible encouraging solutions on how to increase love in this world. Our views on this come from our own faith and backgrounds, but we truly believe the lyrics contained in these songs are a message anyone can agree with and apply to their own world regardless of faith, color, gender, or circumstance. We are trying to participate in this conversation of life by drenching guitars in fuzz, booming drums, and mountains of smoke and lights.  Based out of Indianapolis, B.O.B. has already toured the Midwest heavily, opened for national acts from all over the US, and have already put out three music videos, two 7 inch, two full length albums, a 12 inch, and a EP all in their first two years. Brother O' Brother currently has label associations with Fonoflo Records, Grimtale Records, and Shedhouse Records.

FEISTY PIRANHAS RELEASE CD / 2 DVD REMEMBRANCE OF LATE FRONT PERSON, PETER ALEX LUST

Paying tribute to the passing of Peter Alex Lust, onetime front-man, lead guitarist and vocalist of popular Los Angeles rock band The Feisty Piranhas, Alex's dad, Peter Lust, is overseeing the posthumous release of two DVDs ("Feisty Piranhas - The PIRANHA Experience" (and) "Feisty Piranhas  - Live In Lasers") and one album ("Evil Monkey") dedicated to the lasting memory of the younger Lust (Street Date: January 15, 2015).

The DVDs will contain ten bonus documentaries approximately three-ten minutes in length about Peter Alex Lust's life and performances before he passed.

Both the DVDs and CD will be available for sale at www.feistypiranhas.com. 100% of the proceeds will go to Peter Alex Lust's foundation, The Music Foundation For The Memory  of Peter Alex Lust III. The new album was mastered at the famed Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood, California.

THE FEISTY PIRANHAS - SOME BACKGROUND

There’s no misnomer here, as the Feisty Piranhas lived up to their name in the music, stage presence, and personality.

A pop punk, rock, and reggae band hailing from Ventura County, California, Feisty Piranhas brought a vivacious and spunky energy to the music scene, both on stage and off.

Started by father/son drummer and guitarist duo Peter Lust, Jr. and Peter Alex Lust III in 2002, the band made quite a splash, winning numerous recognitions and awards –  “Showcase Artist of the Year” at the 20th Annual Los Angeles Music Awards, with Peter Lust also nabbing the LAMA's "Rock Drummer of the Year". They were selected a “Top 100 Unsigned/Independent Artist for 2008” by respected national trade publication, MUSIC CONNECTION, in their year-end December issue.

The high-energy band brought a hard, loud, and fast sound to the stage, favorably compared to groups as diverse as Green Day and NOFX, Rush, and even Pink Floyd. It's no wonder that the Feisty Piranhas were invited to play at world-renowned venues and opened for big name acts like punk stalwarts The Misfits and Dragonforce, as well as seminal rockers Blue Oyster Cult and The Tubes.

WHAT THE MEDIA SAID... ABOUT THE FEISTY PIRANHAS

VENTURA COUNTY REPORTER - “Feisty Piranhas are led on vocals and guitar by 24-year-old Peter Alexander Lust III and backed up by his father, Peter Lust (“Pops”), a spacecraft consultant by day and punk rock drummer by night. The show should make for an interesting audience mix as the more mature B.O.C. fans mingle with some feisty pop punkers in the pit.”

ROCKWIRED MAGAZINE - “Dark, moody, Socal punk/pop with unexpected flourishes."

VENTURA COUNTY STAR - “They bring so much energy...the band’s mix of blues-punk-hard rock guitar, progressive rock drumming, emotional vocals, and razor sharp clarinet harmonies creates a new breed of songs that are catchy but also have true emotion and musical attitude that are supported by Peter Alex’s lyrics".

ALL ACCESS MAGAZINE - "Feisty Piranhas have a very melodic but in-your-face sound that mixes punk, reggae, ska, and pop punk…at The Key Club the band were able to play to the crowd’s needs and gained new fans with their Sublime-ish/reggae-ish tone of music. Even the hard rockers were clapping to the band's groove, finishing it off with a solid cover of Guns N’ Roses “Sweet Child O’ Mine.”

WEST HOLLYWOOD PATCH - “The Feisty Piranhas came down from Ventura County to spread the concept of community and integrity throughout the independent music scene as well as to properly rock out an eight‐song set…the band put on a valiant display, serving as the perfect appetizer for FEAR's eight‐course beating.”

If he could speak from Heaven, the young Lust - a mere 24 when he unexpectedly passed away in January 2014 - might now be saying, "I come down to you though my father. Thank you for thinking of me.

I am alive in a different place and I am watching down on all of you. Keep your wills high, I am an angel now. An angel that is keeping over all of my friends and those who care and think of the spirit I left behind.

Do not for a second believe that nothing is here, it is bustling with sprints and Angels that care for all of you on what we call earth. God does bless you".

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's Robert Levon Been Pays Tribute to Late Father's Legendary Band The Call!

TheCall-RLBphoto4

Xombiewoof Magazine got a chance to listen to this album in its entirety and we have to say this is one to have, not only is this album a stunning tribute from one amazing performer about another, it is a living tribute of a son’s love for his father.

Tribute to The Call

Much to the excitement of music fans worldwide, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's Robert Levon Been pays tribute to his late father, Michael Been, with an unforgettable live performance fronting his father's legendary band The Call in the upcoming live DVD / CD “The Call Live Tribute With Robert Levon Been” (available September 2nd, 2014 via Label Records/Lightyear/Caroline).

TheCallcover"It's difficult to sum up what this show meant to me, but it was also just such a natural primal reaction to wanting to share the music and the joy we felt playing these songs together with more than just the 4 of us. The very first time i played with Scott, Dickie, and Jim in rehearsal together there was such an overwhelming love for the songs and the spirit that it couldn't just end there. We had to take it as far as we could go, to create an echo that would carry us all.” - Robert Levon Been.

“What a joy it has been to reconnect with the band and the fans. I don't know how Robert pulled this off, but there were times during the show that I was not sure what year it was” – Jim Goodwin

The album is definitive and astounding, the collected works of musical genius with a foundation in total respect to his father’s work, Robert Levon Been brings an energy and excitement that is unparalleled in many tribute albums and will be the goal to meet for any future performers who dare to follow. In addition the DVD is full of great moments and behind the scenes information and footage.

While The Call (Michael Been, Tom Ferrier, Jim Goodwin and Scott Musick) got their official start in Santa Cruz, CA in 1979, its roots as a band go back to Michael Been's childhood in Oklahoma City, where seeing Elvis Presley perform on television changed the course of his life. That early interest in musical performance inspired his career, from the very beginning performing at the age of seven on local radio and television programs, to his eventual move to Chicago at the age of 16, where he was drawn into the blues scene by Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, and Junior Parker. Been eventually made his way to California, where he connected with drummer Scott Musick, as well as Tom Ferrier (guitar, vocals) and Jim Goodwin (keyboards, vocals) to form The Call.

Despite having their initial demos rejected by all the major labels, the band found themselves in demand by nearly every major producer in America. The Call's debut album was ultimately produced by Hugh Padgham (David Bowie, The Police) and the band were suddenly opening acts for major artists including Peter Gabriel and Simple Minds. The Call was not atypical of their generation, but a voice that was herd and revered, to put in one word, Timeless.

Tribute to The Call

The Call were signed to Mercury, Elektra and MCA, and released seven critically acclaimed albums over the next eight years, featuring several iconic hit songs including “Let The Day Begin” and “I Still Believe (Great Design).” In 1997, after a seven year break, the band reformed to release the album Heaven & Back, before disbanding once more. Michael Been began serving as sound engineer for his son Robert Levon Been's band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, but passed away from a heart attack while working backstage at the 2010 Pukkelpop festival in Belgium.

Now after twenty years, The Call reunited at legendary Los Angeles venue The Troubador and gave an incredible live performance with Robert Levon Been stepping into his father's role and joining Musick, Ferrier and Goodwin for the one-of-a-kind event. For Robert - who grew up going out on the road with The Call anytime he had a break from school - the performance offered the chance to honor his musical legacy and perform nearly a dozen and a half songs from the band’s esteemed catalog. And for original members Musick, Ferrier and Goodwin, the show allowed them the opportunity to honor their friend and their own musical legacy while revisiting a bond they thought was gone forever.

The Call was always about a deep spiritual connection and an examination of life from an intense personal perspective. Now, we have the son doing a tribute to his father that has taken it to a new level...a truly joyous noise after a 25 year silence.” - Jim Goodwin

“The Call Live Tribute with Robert Levon Been” will be available as a DVD+CD Deluxe Set on September 2nd 2014 and will also be available on CD, 180 gram double vinyl, and digitally (with 5 extra bonus tracks).

The Alnico II Pro Slash–By Seymour Duncan

Seymour and Slash

Slash has been powering his sound with Seymour Duncan pickups for a long time, and his signature Alnico II Pro Slash model is one of the pickups we find folks talking about the most on our social media networks. So what makes this pickup so unique? Well it was developed to make Slash's other Les Pauls sound like his famed 1986 recording axe (which used our Alnico II Pro pickups but was not chambered). Like the standard APH-1 Alnico II Pro, Slash's model uses an Alnico 2 magnet, but the coils are wound with just enough boosted output to push a stock Les Paul toward the sweet sustain and rude crunch of that legendary recording guitar. And the pickup comes with some of the same appointments found on the Seymour Duncan pickups in the original guitar, including single-conductor cable, long-legged bottom plate and wooden spacer. Check out a video of it in action below.

Video Spotlight:

If you're looking to inject some new life into your bass, or to return a modified one to vintage spec, we have plenty of pickups for you, including active Blackouts, models for Music Man®, Rickenbacker®, Jazz Bass®, P-Bass® and many more which you can read about in this blog post, plus our Antiquity (50s-inspired) and Antiquity II (60s-inspired) lines of replacement pickups which replicate vintage designs. And if you're after something more specialized the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop offers plenty of bass pickups, built to your needs.

Gibson Custom Billy F. Gibbons Les Paul Goldtop

Gibson Custom Billy F. Gibbons Goldtop

Gibson and Billy Gibbons have just unveiled the new Gibson Custom Billy F. Gibbons Les Paul Goldtop, featuring Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates humbuckers. 150 will be carefully hand-aged, with 50 played and hand-signed by Billy himself. A further 150 will feature Gibson's VOS (Vintage Original Spec) treatment. The pinstripe design was created by Billy himself and recreated by well-known hotrod-pinstripe artist Rick Harris and a Gibson artist that Rick has personally trained. And this guitar has an additional twist: there are individual volume controls for each pickup, a master tone control governing both, and…that's it! There's no pickup selector switch. Billy requested this so you can dial in the perfect tonal blend on the fly. You can find out more abut this guitar here.

What's New On The Seymour’s Blog?

Over on the blog we've been looking at the Black Winter neck model (which is more versatile than its metal-centric name might suggest).

We've checked out an extra-customised version of a Custom Shop pickup called the IM1, and we've offered tips on pickups for guitars with unusual wood combinations (notice how many players are discovering the combination of a premium Basswood body with a maple top lately?). We've also taken a moment to look at the Shop Floor Custom options - variations on standard models which you can request through your dealer, such as different colors and magnets. We've also weighed up the pros and cons of big strings vs small strings, considered the mysteries of the scalloped fretboard, and had a chuckle at misheard song lyrics.

By the way, if you're just getting into pickup-changing or you'd like to take your skills further, check our our Guitar Wiring Diploma Course, which will give you a nice solid grounding (pardon the pun) on everything from the simplest circuit imaginable (a pickup and a jack) to some pretty advanced stuff like how hum cancelling works and what you can do with a Super Switch.

BOB DYLAN’S “LIKE A ROLLING STONE” RELEASED AS GROUNDBREAKING INTERACTIVE VIDEO

Revolutionary Technology Sparks First Official Video For 50-Year-Old Classic Recording

WATCH VIDEO HERE

When Bob Dylan released “Like A Rolling Stone” in 1965 – forever shattering all pre-conceived notions for what a pop single could be in terms of length, sound and subject matter - no official music video was ever created to accompany his release. But nearly a half-century later, a groundbreaking interactive project has been created for the song, allowing fans to experience the classic recording in unprecedented ways. Today, the Bob Dylan – “Like a Rolling Stone” Interactive Video is unveiled worldwide on BobDylan.com, coinciding with The Complete Album Collection Volume 1, just released on Columbia/Legacy Recordings.

The Bob Dylan – “Like a Rolling Stone” Interactive Video showcases a patented technology platform, created by the digital media company Interlude, which allows viewers to play an active role in the story of the music video. The experience begins when users press play and have the ability to surf 16 different “TV channels” within the video in real-time. These channels are comprised of American TV formats in which, no matter what channel you are on, the hosts and actors are all lip-syncing the lyrics to "Like a Rolling Stone" as the song continues to play seamlessly. No two people will engage with the video in the same way twice. The full interactive video can also be experienced on iPhones and iPads and is easily shared across social media platforms.

A number of recognizable TV shows and talent can be spotted throughout the video, and savvy viewers will no doubt make connections between some of these appearances and the song’s lyrics, as well as to certain moments from throughout Bob Dylan’s 50-plus years as a worldwide cultural figure.

“We're forever looking for compelling, creative ways to distinguish our artists and their music from the din. The Interlude treatment of ‘Like a Rolling Stone’ provides us with a unique, playful, highly engaging platform from which we can reach - and ideally attract - Dylan fans from across the spectrum," said Adam Block, President of Sony Music/Legacy Recordings.

As a musician myself, I can’t imagine a more thrilling project to be a part of than helping create the first video for ‘Like a Rolling Stone,’” said Yoni Bloch, founder and CEO of Interlude. “The song has repeatedly been voted the No. 1 Greatest Song of All Time by Rolling Stone, and is generally regarded as revolutionary, influencing both artists and popular music around the world. Like the song, we hope Interlude will inspire creative professionals everywhere to develop new and unique ways to tell stories through video.”

With its cutting-edge interactive video technology, Interlude (repeat winner of Most Innovative Video at the MTV O Music Awards) partnered with award-winning content creator Pulse Films (LCD Soundsystem’s "Shut Up and Play the Hits" and Blur’s "No Distance Left to Run") and Walter Pictures (Best Music Video Award winner by Time Magazine, Pitchfork, and MTV Woodie Awards) to make an extraordinary first official video for Dylan’s seminal song.

The video is being released in conjunction with The Complete Album Collection Volume 1, from Columbia/Legacy Recordings. NYC Rock N’ Roll Mainstay QUEEN V Reveals New WWII-Themed Music Video for ‘Right Or Wrong’

queen vNew Album The Decade of Queen V – Available Online Now - Featuring Lemmy of Motörhead, Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine, and More!

Performing Next Week as Part of NYC’s CBGB Festival @ The Canal Room - Guitar World Announces Special “Queen V Prize Pack” Giveaway Contest

QUEEN V is a lasting New York City mainstay, and no one – from the kids at the dark, damp underground bars and clubs in Brooklyn to the suits at the largest venues in Manhattan – can deny that fact. Surrounding the hype of upcoming performances at Bowery Electric and as part of CBGB Festival at The Canal Room, QUEEN V has released a brand new, U.S. veteran-focused, WWII-themed music video for her track ‘Right Or Wrong’. Who better to exclusively release it with than New York City’s largest alternative newsweekly, The Village Voice. Watch the video via The Village Voice at this link.

Even with the period setting and wartime actors, the ‘Right Or Wrong’ video isn’t just all smoke and mirrors. Everything in this video is as real and raw as the ‘Right Or Wrong’ lyrics themselves. The video was filmed at VFW Post 3460 in Media, PA with several vets on hand as extras and as consultants for historical accuracy.

“Commander Knapp and others of the VFW Post 3460 were more than helpful with the video,” states QUEEN V. “There were 80 / 90 year old vets who were helping design the uniforms of our lead and supporting actors.  They even opened their museum cases and used original medals, patches and belts for authenticity.  It was amazing to see the pride and honor in the soldiers faces as they were giving us direction while they clearly were, in their minds, transported back in their memories.”

QUEEN V adds, “The brooch that William gives to me in the house scene, and that I am wearing in the USO scene, was actually a gift from my father to my mother, and a constant reminder of the ties that bind.”

For the past several years, QUEEN V has been an advocate for veterans issues and a supporter of IAVA (Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, www.iava.org). The daughter of a Korean War veteran, V has supported veterans in various ways, like raising awareness at her concerts, where veterans are often granted complimentary admission, creating fundraising opportunities for IAVA, such as the "Rock For Vets" concert, attending IAVA's annual Galas in New York and Los Angeles, and more.

While you’re online watching the new video, take a click over to GuitarWorld.com, where they are giving away a special “QUEEN V Prize Pack” to one lucky winner! The prize pack includes The Decade of Queen V CD, a QUEEN V logo tote bag, t-shirt, bottle opener, signed poster and more.

QUEEN V is more Hard Rockin’ Woman than you can Handle.

imageA global icon in the making, QUEEN V already holds court as the reigning rock regent of NYC. With a decade under her belt as the quintessential Lady of Manhattan’s Lower East Side, QUEEN V has developed an obsessed fan base that stretches far beyond the concrete jungle.

QUEEN V released her latest album, The Decade of Queen V on June 25, 2013 via Royal Noise Records. Filled with one blistering hard rocker after another, featuring the tough yet soulful, passionate and empowered vocals of QUEEN V, backed by an army of guitar slingers (including herself), The Decade of Queen V encompasses her recorded output from 2005 to 2013.

The Decade of Queen V opens with “Revolution Baby” (2009) where Queen V snarls “if you think you own me, go to hell,” complete with a Led Zeppelin-styled blues-harp by Jon Paris, and ends with “Wasted” (2009), an anthem-for-the-ages co-written by Motörhead’s Lemmy who shares vocal duties with V. Other highlights on the album include the brand new “Cry Your Eyes Out,” the gutsy “My Machine (2009), which features a burning lead guitar solo by Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), and the deeply moving “Right Or Wrong” (2005). The 11 tracks on The Decade Of Queen V show that V is not only a fierce rock n’ roll siren, but also a nuanced and varied songwriter, able to traverse a diverse range of emotions.

Ferocious hard rock guitar playing, powerful, passionate vocals, and endless swagger and attitude. This is what Rock ‘N’ Roll is all about, and this is exactly what you get with Queen V.

After getting her start in the music industry as a songwriter and performer in musical theater, V wound up bouncing between such famed New York City clubs as CBGBs, Don Hill’s, The Palladium, The Bitter End, and The Green Door. It was in those venues that V found her inspiration and will to cultivate her passion for music from a pastime into a career.

Queen V, the band, started in 1996 when she met producer Phil Schmoll. She settled on the name Queen V because in ’96, rap was replacing rock in the minds and hearts of young music fans. The name, to her, raises the stakes, and makes a statement about how scorching female-fronted rock can be.

In 2003, Queen V toured with Twisted Sister.  “I think that was our toughest crowd,” she remembers. “To open for Twisted Sister on Long Island? Oh man, you get these really tough biker dudes standing right in front of you with their arms crossed looking up at the stage, almost daring you to impress them. But by the end of the shows, they know you’re there for the same hard driving rock and roll they came for, and all of a sudden they’re on board.’”

Queen V found herself opening for Billy Idol at a show in her native New York. It went so well, she opened three more, then seven on the West Coast. “It was my first tour,” she says. “There are a lot of women in Billy’s crowds and they loved seeing a girl up there doing her damnedest to rock their faces off. The response was very good and the more we got out there, the more people got to know the music, the more my confidence grew, and the shows just got better and better.”

Tom Morello and Lemmy were in the audience at Hollywood’s legendary Viper Room when Queen V rocked the house in 2004 during a tour for the compilation album New York City Rock’n’Roll. “It’s our home base in L.A.,” she says, “it’s a great room. It has all the legendary magic and history behind it.” After performing a blistering cover of Van Halen’s “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love,” Queen V met the two rockers and the three became fast friends, so much so that Morello plays lead guitar on “My Machine,” another track off of The Decade Of Queen V and Lemmy co-wrote and sings on album closer “Wasted.”

In 2005 Queen V had another chance to play with another industry heavy hitter when she won a popular vote contest on XM Radio leading to the opening slot on a Bon Jovi tour. “I’ve been very fortunate to have met some amazing people along the way. Jon and Richie [Sambora] were so gracious to us. Not only did we open for them, but the show was at the Meadowlands! Being a New Yorker and growing up in Montclair, N.J., that’s my home turf. It was the biggest thrill of my life. I saw my first concerts there!”

Queen V has also used her voice to perform at a series of benefits that she deeply believes in, most particularly her heavy presence for IAVA (Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America), having performed in conjunction with their 2010 Benefit Gala in Hollywood.

This is an artist with the kind of ballsy independent streak geared for the long haul. “I never wanted to be something I’m not.” One aspect of this fiery spirit resulted in her “Take Back New York” shows. V continues to work diligently to preserve New York’s underground music scene, and those shows, started in 2007, brought to the fore an old-school rock party in Downtown Manhattan which always culminated in a raucous jam for local musicians.

This is one Lady who can hold her own with the fellas, dress like a lady, and rock the roof off of any room. All it takes is one listen and you’re hooked.
