HIP HOP ARTIST CHUCK D TO ENGAGE STUDENTS ON CAMPUS OF UCLA ENCOURAGING CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AND VOTER EDUCATION

Artist Visits Campus to Promote Musical Rally on May 10th to Empower Youth

LOS ANGELES, CA — Chuck D, legendary frontman of hip-hop group Public Enemy, will be on the UCLA campus today, talking to students about the need to organize, educate, and participate in order to take back democracy from the corporatocracy.

Chuck D's visit to the campus will encourage students to attend the United We Stand Festival, a musical rally taking place this coming Saturday, May 10 at 4:00 PM, where Chuck D is a participant.  The rally will celebrate the re-emergence of democracy, where we the people are fighting back against the corporatocracy and implementing meaningful electoral reforms.

Chuck D promotes the United We Stand Festival to be held May 10th where he will be a headlining performer and speaker. This campus visit is sponsored by UCLA’s Afrikan Student Union.

About United We Stand Festival

Check one, two... The King is in the building

 

Many have called themselves “The King” and even we as society have given artist and entertainment figures this title. There's been The King of New York, The King of Queens, The King of Pop yes, Even “The King” himself Elvis. These titles may have been with or without merit in one’s eyes but what would those who have been given this title really feel about it if they truly know what the responsibilities were beforehand.

BlinkShow TV had the opportunity to speak with this up and coming artist about what's it like to be a “King” in the making? What King are we referring to..? Well, Dula – Mite, his rap name, is calling himself, nothing short of being, The King of Las Vegas.

We sit down with Abdullah Al-Amin in 2010 in a studio that he regularly records in. He had finished a recording session minutes earlier and we were then invited to go behind the scenes and get an in depth interview with the self-proclaimed “The King of Las Vegas” rap artist. He, a producer, and his own camera guy were the only staff members still in the studio that late night.

As we began to sit up our equipment, I said to myself, “Well, he is off to a good start, because he is still here late in the studio working, hard!” I would assume he would be in the streets, running around and doing everything other than protecting his title.

From the beginning, based on appearances alone, you would not understand how “Dula” would call himself King. He doesn't look like a traditional King. A King that would wear a symbol of his authority on his back and head. Or, one that has graced the planet with his concerts and millions of record sells. No. This King doesn't have those accomplishments, Yet!

So, what kind of King is this? Well, Abdullah Al-Amin, in his early 20's, has taken on a task larger than his title. In my opinion, I think he has organically taken on a new way to help Las Vegas' underground rap scene understand why there is the controversy and major disconnect from artist and why possibly Vegas' entertainers are not able to show their unity...
