Lust Immortal and Forever Feisty

CD Review: Evil Monkey by Feisty Piranhas

Released in Posthumous Tribute to Peter Alex Lust III

Album Review by Joseph Timmons

Published by Mad Fish Productions and Available at www.thefeistypiranhas.com

A band is more than a group of guys or gals that travel around and play together, they are a unified spirit, bonded by a “musical blood” that flows through them. It is with this in mind, that when a band member passes from this realm, unexpectedly and oh so too young, we all mourn not just what they were, but what they could be.

63604_10150141500972586_3047683_nPeter Alex Lust III was young, energetic and a fighter to the core, no stranger to hardship and with a history of beating the medical odds, not only had he become a great musician and frontman to the Feisty Piranhas, Peter also majored in Political Science at California State University at Channel Islands, graduated with a Bachelor's Degree and began to prepare himself for Law School. So his untimely death in December of 2013 was devastating to his band mates, but none more than the drummer of the band, who had seen Peter through all of his days in the Feisty Piranhas, through all his trials and tribulations in life, whom from day one loved peter more than life itself, the drummer, his father, Peter Lust Jr.

165098_10150141506182586_95043_nSince the death of Peter the younger, his father has held the band together and has created their new tribute album, Evil Monkey in memory of his son and 2 DVDs of Live Performances that chronicles and sets the foundation for his son’s legacy in music. These releases have captured the very essence of his son and the wonderful music he brought forth to his many fans and the pride to his family’s hearts.

Evil Monkey by Feisty Piranhas is a collected work of songs recorded ad tracked just prior to Peter’s death, but not completed, his father and the band completed the album and has released it to the public on their website, all proceeds of the CD sales and the DVD sales will support The Music Foundation For The Memory of Peter Alex Lust III.

165730_10150141504967586_2859994_nThe new album was mastered at the famed Bernie Grundman in Hollywood. Though dubbed a “pop-punk, rock & reggae” band, they are much more; they have vibrancy and a mystique that is quite difficult to put into words.

With driving rhythm and a pinch of rebel angst, a hard edge and a balanced, finished sound that rivals artists of longer past, the Feisty Piranhas are formidable. Feisty Piranhas have been compared to bands like NOFX, Green Day, Rush, Pink Floyd and for good reason; they have that something special that makes their music both hypnotic an enduring. It is, I feel, for this reason that this album Evil Monkey, will be the greatest memory of Peter Alex Lust III that will be like his spirit, an eternal reminder of his life.

63195_10150141505217586_1679665_nTracks on this album that stand out the most is a difficult phrase to say since all the tracks are momentous in themselves and all together magnificent.

I am however especially fond of what I feel are the best of the best on Evil Monkey – the songs  “Changing the World”, “This Is Her”, “Armageddon”, ”Shenanigans” and “Show Me A Free Man And I’ll Show You A Fool”.

For all the power and energy in the music, it is also very haunting, knowing that this voice is singing to us from beyond, proving there is a heaven and that an afterlife may be filled with eternal joy if a person like Peter Alex Lust is there to prepare a place for us to stay.

157046_10150141502882586_7915453_nIt is said, that when we mourn ones passing, it is not because they are no longer on this earth with us, but because we are here without them, with your permission and with a tissue in hand, I will say to you, with this album you can hold back your tears for another day.

Peter is here with us, listening to him sing and play, “Changing the World”, one day at a time.

Visit their web sites and support The Music Foundation for the Memory of Peter Alex Lust III by purchasing this great album and DVD collections- On the Web At http://www.thefeistypiranhas.com, on Facebook and On YouTube.

Hello Fans of Good Music:

Quite a bit going on here at Hidden Volume in December. First up, two HUGE releases from the HiVo Hit Factory with singles by Cleveland's Whiskey Daredevils and New Jersey mods The Insomniacs. Both bands' histories go way back and have graced labels from Estrus Records to Screaming Apple to Sympathy for the Record Industry. And these two will have you reaching for your wallet, er, scrambling for your turntable because they straight up RULE. Just head over to hiddenvolume.com if you don't believe us.

Secondly, we have new stickers, a killer new T-shirt and you should be the first to know it's confirmed we will be doing singles by Philly organ-pumpers The GTVs and Toronto slash-n-burn garagepunks, Pow Wows. Not only that but stay tuned for singles by Japanese fuzz monsters The Routes, mysterious Vox punishers The Noble Krell and a split from The Improbables and The Stents (first release since 2013). Plus a ton of other records we can't even wrap our brains around right now.
XMAS: we will be shipping out records up until the end of the year but if you are looking to get something by Xmas (domestic orders only) you will need to get your order in by DEC 16 to be safe. No exceptions.

And yes, we will have a big year-end wrap up and (hopefully) all-inclusive thank you list coming soon. I'm sure you can hardly wait.

Music Review: Henry Mancini’s The Classic Soundtrack Collection

Henry_Mancini_Classic_Soundtrack_Collection_CoverHENRY MANCINI’S TIMELESS FILM MUSIC CELEBRATED IN THE CLASSIC SOUNDTRACK COLLECTION

Legacy Recordings to be released November 18th 2014

Pre-Order Now for the Holiday Season at Amazon.com

Music Review by Joseph Timmons: Xombiewoof Magazine

The 9-CD box set features 18 of Mancini’s most celebrated soundtrack albums with rare bonus tracks. Scores feature jazz and pop standards, including “The Pink Panther Theme,” “Moon River” (from Breakfast At Tiffany’s) and “Baby Elephant Walk” (from Hatari!)

If you have ever seen a movie filmed from 1950 to 1980, odds are it had the brilliant work of Henry Mancini, or was inspired by it. A name synonymous with the brilliance and comedy, mystery and romance, Mancini’s touch gave life to them all. And now, all of his work is available in one unique boxed set that will be the pick for the avid music collector as well as cinema authority.

Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, will release the Henry Mancini’s The Classic Soundtrack Collection on Tuesday, November 18th. In a career that spanned nearly half a century, Henry Mancini became synonymous with catchy, jazzy, romantic music for film and television soundtracks. The Classic Soundtrack Collection, showcases all of Mancini’s soundtrack albums for the RCA, Epic and Columbia labels, including several of his most iconic and beloved scores.

HMancini_product_shotThe Classic Soundtrack Collection features 18 original Mancini soundtrack albums on 9 discs plus rare bonus tracks, including a never-before-heard version of “Nothing To Lose” from writer-director Blake Edwards’ 1968 comedy The Party performed by Julie Andrews. Taken together, the albums in this collection underline the enduring popularity of Henry Mancini and his unique ability to create movie music that pop audiences could also embrace.

From 1952 to 1958, Mancini was contracted to create soundtracks for films for Universal-International Studios, including the Oscar-nominated The Glenn Miller Story and the brassy, suspenseful score to Orson Welles’ Touch Of Evil. From there, Mancini gained widespread acclaim as an independent composer and arranger, winning four Oscars and 20 Grammy Awards during his career.

28ef5a435bed6dd139177099d74aecc0Mancini’s greatest collaboration may have been with Blake Edwards; they first worked together on Edwards’ 1959 television series Peter Gunn. The iconic jazz theme was an international hit and winner of two Grammy Awards and an Emmy Award. The duo would collaborate on such films as Breakfast At Tiffany’s (featuring the immortal pop standard “Moon River,” written by Mancini with lyricist Johnny Mercer) and the Pink Panther series of comedies (the slinky, saxophone-driven instrumental theme remains one of cinema’s most recognizable standards).

Elsewhere in Hollywood, Mancini earned critical and commercial acclaim with scores to films like Hatari! Starring John Wayne and featuring the playful “Baby Elephant Walk”; the Cary Grant/Audrey Hepburn mystery Charade, and the comedy-drama Two for the Road, Mancini’s personal favorite of the many themes he composed.

In most of my reviews when it comes to multi-album collections or greatest hits, I try to pick out the best of the best, with the Henry Mancini’s The Classic Soundtrack Collection it is just not possible, each album is a masterpiece unto itself, worth of attention and praise, but together you have what is the most remarkable music ever created for the cinema but one who understood the connection between imagery and sound and could with a wave of his hand conduct an ensemble to make you laugh, cry or shout in joy. The Henry Mancini’s The Classic Soundtrack Collection is the brightest jewel of the upcoming holiday gift selections.

But don’t tell the Pink Panther that….

pink_panther_11_4038ALBUMS INCLUDED IN THE CLASSIC SOUNDTRACK COLLECTION:

Epic Records and Legacy Recordings Celebrate Stevie Ray Vaughan's 60th Birthday with Release of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble: The Complete Epic Recordings Collection.

Definitive 12 Disc SRV & DT Library Includes 1st Commercial Release of 1983's A Legend In The Making - Live at the El Mocambo Toronto Concert.

SRV_CAC_cover_comps.inddStevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble: The Complete Epic Recordings Collection Available Tuesday, October 28.

Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, and Epic Records celebrate electric blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan with the release of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble: The Complete Epic Recordings Collection (http://smarturl.it/SRV_CEAC_amzn) on Tuesday, October 28, 2014.

A definitive career-encompassing 12 disc library, The Complete Epic Recordings Collection brings together, for the first time, the entirety of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble's official studio and live album canon including the inaugural commercial release of A Legend In The Making, a highly collectible (formerly) promotional only recording of SRV & DT's incendiary performance at Toronto's El Mocambo club in 1983.

In addition, The Complete Epic Recordings Collection features two discs compiling rare and hard-to-find archival tracks.

On April 26, 2014, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble among the artists to be inducted into the newly created Austin City Limits Hall of Fame, launched in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the PBS televised concert series. The Austin City Limits Hall of Fame induction ceremony will air on PBS in October 2014.

Stephen Ray Vaughan was born in Dallas, Texas on October 3, 1954, the same year the Fender Stratocaster went into production. Stevie Ray picked up his first six-string at the age of 7, dropped out of high school in 1971 and moved to Austin in '72, going on to become one of the most influential and electrifying blues guitarists ever. After honing his chops in a variety of bands throughout the '70s, Stevie Ray formed his own group, SRV & Double Trouble, in 1978. Hell-bent and intent on revitalizing the blues for contemporary audiences, Stevie Ray served as the power trio's charismatic frontman and evangelical electric guitarist, driven and underscored by drummer Chris Layton and bassist Tommy Shannon.

Stevie Ray and Double Trouble's reputation as a transcendent live experience gained considerable traction following a watershed performance at the Montreux International Jazz Festival in 1982 (included in The Complete Epic Recordings Collection). Recommended to the label by A&R giant John Hammond, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble recorded the band's studio debut, Texas Flood, for Epic Records in 1983. Going on to achieve RIAA double platinum status, Texas Flood opened the gates for a flow of gold, platinum and multiplatinum albums for Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, an unprecedented achievement for any blues act.

Stevie Ray Vaughan died in a helicopter crash on August 27, 1990, following an awe-inspiring performance with Double Trouble and Eric Clapton at the Alpine Valley Resort in Wisconsin. Though his mainstream career lasted a mere seven years, Stevie Ray Vaughan's enduring contribution to the blues can be heard in the work of younger players including John Mayer, Derek Trucks and Mike McCready of Pearl Jam.

Stevie Ray Vaughan was the recipient of numerous musical award, during his lifetime and posthumously. In 1983, readers of Guitar Player voted him as Best New Talent and Best Electric Blues Guitar Player. In 1984, the Blues Foundation named him Entertainer of the Year and Blues Instrumentalist of the Year, and in 1987 Performance Magazine honored him with Rhythm and Blues Act of the Year. Earning six Grammy Awards and ten Austin Music Awards, he was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Musicians Hall of Fame in 2014. Rolling Stone ranked Vaughan as the twelfth greatest guitarist of all time.

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble: The Complete Epic Recordings Collection will be an anthology and a complete tribute to an artist that revitalized an genre of music while keeping it complete and in itself, like his playing and live performances, Flawless.

BUCKCHERRY DROPS THE “F” BOMB ON THIS WHOLE MUTHA-F#CKIN WORLD

F EP BAND PHOTO2

BUCKCHERRY DEBUT NEW SINGLE, “SAY F#CK IT,” From the upcoming New EP album simply titled “F#CK”

Album / Music Review of Buckcherry’s Newest Album, which is simply titled after the most used and often abused word in the English language, this album is significantly strong, in both the sentiment and the style, making this album a true emotional statement. For Buckcherry, this is a “Red Letter Day”.

BC_FUCK-FRONT-V2 (1)

Warning: This Review may contain Strong Language, but who gives a “F#UCK”

In building anticipation for LA’s Platinum-selling rock band Buckcherry’s forthcoming EP, F#CK, which will be released on August 19th via the band’s own label F-Bomb Records. Buckcherry has premiered the first new song and radio single, “Say F#ck It,” at Billboard.com. The track is a cover of Icona Pop’s hit song “I Love It,” but done with Buckcherry’s signature notorious flair.

The single, “Say F#ck It,” is available now on iTunes and the record is available for pre-order at iTunes http://smarturl.it/BuckcherryFck_iTunes and in the band’s official store http://smarturl.it/BCshop .

You Can Stream “Say F#ck It” now at Billboard.com: http://bit.ly/1zQYdy6 .

Buckcherry is taking on the censors and critics with a bold new record celebrating their favorite profane word. Simply titled F#CK, the band’s first release on their own label F-Bomb Records is a high-octane rock record that features six incendiary tracks with gritty guitar riffs and sharp-tongued lyrics like “Say F#ck It,” “Somebody F#cked With Me” and “The Motherf#cker.”

The raucous rockers are currently on the road performing at a handful of dates, leading up to the Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival, which they will join on August 16th in Peru, IL. Tickets for all upcoming dates can be purchased at http://buckcherry.com/tour.

In review, “F#CK” is not just a chance for a band, which already has a reputation for stretching the limits, to create an album that will drive parents to drink, well, more than they already do. This album is a statement to the mentality of today’s culture, anger and frustration with a world gone mad. They see a government and a people that are so bent on either a world of sissified “PC-life” or an extreme right wing political tyranny.

We have all wanted to scream “WTF” at the top of our lungs and we demand attention that never seems to come, well Buckcherry has taken a stance, from the big Red Letter “F” and the word “FUCK” ( Yes I said it, FUCK ) right on the cover, you get what you expect, Buckcherry's high energy music with flairs that range from Hard Core Punk to Blood Boiling Metal and Guitar Rocking riffs, if you can stand the pain of a little 4 letter word, This is an album you will love.

Legacy Recordings Release Elvis: “That's The Way It Is” (Deluxe Edition),

elvis

SONY/RCA/Legacy Recordings Announce the Release of Monumental Definitive Edition of Elvis: That's The Way It Is (Deluxe Edition), the King’s 1970 Album & Concert Documentary, Presented Together for the First Time Ever in a Deluxe Box Set (8CD/2DVD).

That’s The Way It Is (Deluxe Edition) Includes Expanded Version of Original LP, Six Complete Shows from Elvis’ Electrifying Summer of ’70 Las Vegas Season.

Rare and Insightful Rehearsals, the 1970 Theatrical Edit AND the 2001 Special Edition of “Elvis: That’s The Way It Is,” 80-Page Booklet featuring Rare Photographs, Memorabilia and Recording Data.

In 1970, Elvis Presley fans were thrilled by the arrival of two cultural milestones: one an album, the other a full-length concert/documentary and each of them called Elvis: That’s The Way It Is. Since then, aficionados of Elvis have been clamoring for a package that included both the album and the film.

On Tuesday, August 5, 2014, Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, will release That’s The Way It Is (Deluxe Edition), the most ambitious Elvis Presley restoration package ever created, bringing together—for the first time ever--the album, the theatrical and home video versions of the film, six full-length concerts (featuring previously unreleased performances), rehearsal highlights and other rare recordings in one astounding and essential package.  The result of an historic partnership between Sony Music and Warner Brothers Home Video, the deluxe set combines the video and audio assets of Elvis: That’s The Way It Is with unique and previously unreleased material.

A highly-collectible 8CD/2DVD box set, That’s The Way It Is (Deluxe Edition), marks the first time the 1970 documentary and album have been available in a single package, with bonuses including unreleased material, remixed and remastered audio and a new 80-page book detailing the entire event with facts, songwriter and musician interviews, and photos in a deluxe 8CD/2DVD box set. A 2CD Legacy Edition of Elvis: That's The Way It Is will also be available.  Elvis: That’s The Way It Is (Deluxe Edition) is available for pre-order now on Amazon.com.

Originally released on RCA Records in November 1970, Elvis: That's The Way It Is combined eight studio tracks, recorded in Nashville, and four live concert performances recorded in Las Vegas during Presley's 1970 "Summer Festival" season at The International Hotel in Las Vegas to create what the All Music Guide has called "…one of his best…" and "essential listening for Elvis fans, both die-hard and casual."

Though never considered a soundtrack album, Elvis: That's The Way It Is was initially released to accompany the first theatrical run of "Elvis: That's The Way It Is," a 1970 documentary feature, directed by Denis Sanders, which combined on-stage, off-stage and behind-the-scenes footage in Presley's first non-dramatic film since his 1956 Hollywood movie debut. In the documentary, Sanders captured and illuminated a pivotal moment in Elvis' transformation from teen idol to consummate showman, Memphis meets Vegas via Hollywood, the King's return to full concert performances after years of film stardom.

Elvis Presley had made a dramatic comeback two years prior to these shows in a transcendent NBC-TV special, which aired in December 1968. The International Hotel, then-newly-built and the largest live venue in Las Vegas, booked Presley for an unprecedented 57 show run in July 1969, a four-week-long residency that would raise the bar and set the standard for superstar entertainment in Vegas and beyond. "There are several unbelievable things about Elvis, but the most incredible is his staying power in a world where meteoric careers fade like shooting stars,” Newsweek wrote of his incredible new approach to live performance at the time, while Rolling Stone lauded Elvis as “supernatural--his own resurrection.”

Early in 1970, Elvis returned to Vegas for a second engagement at the International, with RCA recording songs for the then forthcoming On Stage, February 1970.  Elvis was on a roll and making big plans--including a feature film--surrounding what would be his third Las Vegas engagement, scheduled for the summer of 1970

On June 4, 1970, Elvis arrived at RCA's Studio B in Nashville, where producer Felton Jarvis had assembled a hot new session band featuring Elvis' on-stage guitar legend James Burton. Five nights of recording generated material for no less than three future albums and four singles, including Elvis: That's The Way It Is and the essential Elvis Country album.

On July 14, rehearsals for the movie and live shows commenced at the MGM lot in Culver City, California. The Hollywood cameras rolled for five different rehearsals prior to the opening night on August 10, including augmentation run-throughs with the singers and the orchestra at the hotel. Unquestionably, Elvis was keen to broaden his repertoire for the film, as more than 60 songs were attempted during the period, far more than the usual average of 20 to 25 that would normally be chosen. Over the four nights filmed by MGM, Elvis and his band worked tirelessly, trying out a broad variety of musical styles, emphasizing his desire to share the wide range of music he loved with his audience. Director Denis Sanders captured the end result magnificently, providing fans throughout the world with their first glimpse of the new contemporary Elvis performing at the peak of his vocal prowess both in rehearsal and on the stage.

That's The Way It Is (Deluxe Edition) centers on the six complete shows recorded and partially filmed by MGM.  Two of the shows are released for the first time in their entirety; two more have only been available only through the mail-order Elvis fan-club network. The original RCA album is expanded with the four single sides from the period, and a selection of “fly-on-the-wall” outtakes from the June Nashville sessions that produced the majority of tracks for the album. Completing the audio section, a separate disc of insightful rehearsal highlights, featuring unusual song selections showcases both the hard work and the playful atmosphere that governed Elvis’ relationship with his musicians.

The original Elvis: That's The Way It Is includes fiery renditions of “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me,” previously a hit for Dusty Springfield; “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin,’” made famous by The Righteous Brothers, and a show-stopping rendition of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” The original album and singles will fill Disc One of the new edition, with six CDs worth of concert performances and one of rehearsal takes from the Summer of '70 International Hotel residency.

That's The Way It Is (Deluxe Edition) puts the original RCA album and the 1970 MGM documentary feature together in a single package for the first time. It includes both the original theatrical DVD version (1970) and the re-edited and extended DVD version from 2000.
