Legacy Recordings Back To Black Friday 2013 releases include:

Bob Dylan - Side Tracks - 3 x 12" 200 gram LPs - numbered limited edition

An independent record store vinyl exclusive, Side Tracks (first made available as two CDs in the monumental Bob Dylan Complete Album Collection Vol. One, released November 5, 2013) is a career-spanning collection of official Bob Dylan recordings--including previously released non-album singles, tracks from Biograph and other compilations, songs from films and more--that have never appeared on one of the artist's formal albums.

Cheap Trick - The Classic Albums 1977-1979 - 5 x 12" 180 gram LPs - numbered limited edition

An independent record store vinyl exclusive, The Classic Albums 1977-1979 box collects the first five ground-breaking power-pop masterpieces from one of America's all-time great rock bands, Cheap Trick.  First released within a breathtaking two-year creative peak period in the late 1970s, these classic titles--Cheap Trick, In Color, Heaven Tonight, Live Budokan and Dream Police--have been newly remastered in 2013 from the original analog tapes and come packaged in original album artwork, housed in a newly-designed, numbered limited edition LP box.

Harry Nilsson - Rarities Collection - 12" 180 gram LP - numbered limited edition

An independent record store vinyl exclusive, these 12 rare Nilsson tracks have been especially selected for this release from The RCA Album Collection, a career-spanning 17 CD collection, and include demos, outtakes and other rarities.

Roy Orbison - The Monument Vinyl Box - 4 x 12" 180 gram LPs

An independent record store vinyl exclusive, The Monument Vinyl Box brings together the first three landmark albums--Lonely and Blue (1961), Crying (1962) and In Dreams (1963)--from Orbison's groundbreaking tenure at Monument Records.  These records are now joined by a newly-curated fourth LP, Oh! Pretty Woman - the "missing" Monument album masterpiece that could have, and should have been released as its title song, "Oh, Pretty Woman" was topping the charts in 1964.

Jimi Hendrix Experience - "Fire" b/w "Foxey Lady" - 7" single - Numbered Limited Edition

An independent record store vinyl exclusive, these two live tracks were performed by the Jimi Hendrix Experience at the May 1968 Miami Pop Festival and have been previously unavailable.

Sly & The Family Stone - "Sexy Situation" b/w "Mother Is A Hippie" - 7" single - Numbered Limited Edition

An independent record store vinyl exclusive, this funky 7" single celebrates the release of the deluxe Sly & The Family Stone box set HIGHER! with two previously unissued early versions of these tracks.

Uncle Tupelo - "I Wanna Be Your Dog" b/w "Commotion" - 7" vinyl single - Numbered Limited Edition

An independent record store vinyl exclusive, this vinyl 7" includes "I Wanna Be Your Dog," a cover of the Stooges punk standard and outtake from No Depression, on the A Side with a B Side premiering a previously unreleased studio outtake showcasing Uncle Tupelo rocking Credence Clearwater Revival's "Commotion" in a preview of the forthcoming Legacy Edition of No Depression.

Nas - "Halftime" - 12" Vinyl reproduction of 1992 original

Originally recorded for the Zebrahead soundtrack by an emerging American MC calling himself "Nasty Nas," this explosive debut, in the words of Vibe magazine, "created a niche that only Illmatic could fill."  The single also launched the career of one of the most durable, provocative and poetic rappers in hip-hop history.   This facsimile reproduction of the original 12" vinyl includes the full "Halftime" A-side (1. radio edit, 2. LP version. 3. LP version instrumental) and B-side (1. Butcher Remix 2. Butcher Mix instrumental).  The Nas "Halftime" release provides a fitting overture for the upcoming 20th Anniversary of Illmatic in 2014 (#ILLMATIC20 /Coming 2014).

Miles Davis - Kind of Blue - 12" 180 gram LP - MONO - Numbered Edition

The top-selling jazz album of all time, the modality of Kind of Blue found its way into classical, rock, and pop becoming one of the most influential cultural touchstones of the last half of the 20th century and one of the most transcendent pieces of music ever recorded. Davis played trumpet sublime with his ensemble sextet featuring pianist Bill Evans, drummer Jimmy Cobb, bassist Paul Chambers, and saxophonists John Coltrane and Julian "Cannonball" Adderley with Wyton Kelly playing piano on "Freddy the Freeloader."

Miles Davis - Miles & Monk at Newport - 12" 180 gram LP - MONO - Numbered Edition

Classic live recordings from jazz masters Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk on one LP.  Side One is high energy bebop from the Miles Davis Sextet in 1958 and Side Two includes two full numbers from the Thelonious Monk Quartet with Pee Wee Russell from 1963.

Miles Davis - Jazz Track - 12" 180 gram LP - MONO - Numbered Edition

A reissue of two underrated Miles Davis sessions on one mono LP; Side One is the Miles Davis Quintet's soundtrack for the French film L'Ascenseuer Pour l'Echafaud while highlights from the Miles Davis Sextet's session on May 26, 1958 (Davis' 32nd birthday).

Paul Simon - Paul Simon - 12" 180 gram LP - Numbered - includes download card

Remastered reissue of the recording artist's 1972 solo album, his first post-Simon & Garfunkel, includes the hits "Mother and Child Reunion" (recorded in Kingston, Jamaica) and "Me and Julio Down By The School Yard."

Paul Simon - There Goes Rhymin' Simon - 12" 180 gram LP - Numbered - includes download card

Their first album Pickin’ Up The Pieces, which ascended to #1 on Billboard’s Heat seekers chart, was widely accepted by music lovers and fast Fitz fans around the world, and with More Than Just A Dream, now they have something new to scream and dance about.

I had the opportunity to see Fitz and The Tantrums perform live at the 2013 NAMM Convention in Anaheim California this past January and their show was like a lightning strike, the crowd was bouncing in sync with the beat like sparks in a foundry.

MEET RECORD STORE DAY 2012'S AMBASSADOR: IGGY POP

ANNUAL EVENT FOR INDEPENDENT RECORD STORES WORLDWIDE IS SATURDAY, APRIL 21st

VINYLMANIA: When Life Runs At 33 Revolutions Per Minute, a film by Paolo Campana, chosen as the Official Film of Record Store Day 2012

Record Store Day, the annual event in support of independent record stores the world over, is proud to announce the appointment of Iggy Pop to the post of Record Store Day 2012 Ambassador!

Of course, there is a lot to say about the upcoming event, set this year for Saturday, April 21st, but who better to extoll the virtues of our "holiday" than our Ambassador.

So, ladies and gentlemen, we give you Iggy Pop

A person should have a personality. You won't get one dicking around on a computer. It helps to go somewhere where there are other persons. Persons who are interested in something you are. That's how a record store or any shop that's got some life to it should work.

imageIt's not about selling shit. I got my name, my musical education and my personality all from working at a record store during my tender years. Small indie shops have always been a mix of theater and laboratory. In the 50's and 60's the teen kids used to gather after school at these places to listen free to the latest singles and see if they liked the beat. You could buy the disc you liked for 79 cents and if you were lucky meet a chick. Clerks in these places became managers, (like Brian Epstein), label heads, (Jack Holzman) and Faces on album covers (like me). Personally I feel best in a store that, while staying small and socially relaxed, still keeps a complete variety of music types and non musical recordings on offer. I'm aware though that a lot of great places are genre-specific, like dance hall shops in Jamaica or Compas here in Little Haiti. In Europe and on the West coast the same goes on for Punk and Goth. All of this is cool and has a much bigger future than most people realize today. When the record and record store businesses began to die at the turn of the new century, they deserved it because they got too big too boring and too plastic.

As Record Store Day Ambassador for 2012 I feel like a representative from some exotic jungle full of life and death and sex and anger, called upon to wear a leopard skin and translate joy to the world of the dead.

Record Store Day is also proud to announce their selection of VINYLMANIA: When Life Runs At 33 Revolutions Per Minute, a film by Paolo Campana (75", 2011) as the Official Film of Record Store Day 2012. Produced by Stefilm in coproduction with Lato Sensu and ZDF in collaboration with ARTE, Vinylmania is a tour through the grooves of an object that has never lost its soul, investigating what makes it so legendary in a world dominated by liquid music: Nostalgia? Possession?

The search for an identity - Vinylmania: When Life Runs at 33 Revolutions Per Minute is currently scheduled to play at the FIPATEL and Berlinale markets, and details on Festival and other screenings are being confirmed.

The FIFTH day-long celebration of the culture of the record store happens on Record Store Day, April 21, 2012. More details, on events, performances, screenings and releases are forthcoming. The Record Store Day website is www.recordstoreday.com .

Record Store Day is managed by the Music Monitor Network and is organized in partnership with the Alliance of Independent Media Stores (AIMS), the Coalition of Independent Music Stores (CIMS) and celebrates the culture of independent record stores by playing host to in-store events/performances, signings and special product releases on a global scale.

Record Store Day takes place annually on the third Saturday of April.

CAROLE KING TO REISSUE FOUR CLASSIC ALBUMS

CAROLE KING TO REISSUE FOUR CLASSIC ALBUMS VIA ROCKINGALE RECORDS AND CONCORD MUSIC GROUP FEBRUARY 28

First U.S. CD release for Touch the Sky, Welcome Home and Simple Things plus Pearls: Songs of Goffin and King.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Carole King will release reissues of four classic albums - Pearls: Songs of Goffin and King (1980), Touch the Sky (1979), Welcome Home (1978), and Simple Things (1977) - on February 28 via her own Rockingale Records label and Concord Music Group. Each includes the original photography and album notes and, aside from Pearls, has never been previously released on CD in the United States.

Carole King is one of the primary architects of the singer-songwriter movement of the early 1970s, thanks in large part to the hugely influential body of work she had already established by the time she released her first solo album. King wrote hit songs for other artists for nearly a decade before stepping into the spotlight with her landmark 1971 release Tapestry, which received a Diamond Award from the RIAA for sales of more than 10 million units in the U.S., with more than 25 million units sold worldwide.

These subsequent releases brim with the unprecedented honesty and intimacy of the singer-songwriter era and helped solidify her status as one of the most successful and revered female songwriter in pop music history.

Pearls: Songs of Goffin and King (1980)

Next to Tapestry, which was released nearly a decade earlier, Pearls is considered one of King's finest recordings. Just as the title suggests, it's a retrospective of classic songs written by the powerhouse creative team of King and former husband Gerry Goffin.

Included among the ten tracks are many of the songs that put other artists on the map before King launched her solo career: "The Loco-Motion" (Little Eva, Grand Funk Railroad), "One Fine Day" (The Chiffons, Rita Coolidge), "Chains" (The Beatles), "Hey Girl" (Bobby Vee, The Righteous Brothers, Donnie Osmond, George Benson), and more.

Simple Things (1977)

Simple Things marked King's transition from Epic Records to the Capitol label, and also introduced songwriter/husband Rick Evers as her collaborative partner (the marital and creative partnership was short lived, as Evers died within a year after the release of the ten-song set). The King-Evers songwriting is fleshed out by King's six-piece band, Navarro: guitarists Rob McEntee and Mark Hallman, bassist Rob Galloway, drummer Michael Wooten, percussionist Miguel Rivera, and flutist/saxophonist/clarinetist Richard Hardy.

Welcome Home (1978)

Welcome Home is an eclectic and exploratory outing, with songs ranging from the Beatle-esque ("Venusian Diamond") to the dance beat ("Disco Tech"). But the album is also marked by tragedy. It's King's second recording to showcase the collaborative songwriting partnership with her husband Rick Evers, who died in the months between the completion of the recording sessions in January 1978 and the release in May (Evers appears prominently in the album photos). Welcome Home - with backing by her band Navarro - provides a snapshot of an artist willing to take risks by stepping beyond preconceptions to embrace a range of styles.

Touch the Sky (1979)

Touch the Sky was recorded in Austin, Texas, with a team of musicians that included some members of Navarro - Hallman, Hardy, and Rivera - along with musicians from Jerry Jeff Walker's band. King plays acoustic guitar on "Walk With Me" and "Passing of the Days," and acoustic piano on "Time Gone By," "Crazy," and "You Still Want Her."

The result of this diverse collection of musicianship is a unique blend of folk and country, all of which is held together by King's deft songcraft.

ROADRUNNER TO RELEASE TYPE O NEGATIVE'S LABEL CATALOG AS VINYL BOX SET

image

ROADRUNNER TO RELEASE TYPE O NEGATIVE'S LABEL CATALOG AS VINYL BOX SET,  IT WILL BE SOLD EXCLUSIVELY AT INDEPENDENT RETAIL OUTLETS ON BLACK FRIDAY.

New York, NY: What better way to celebrate Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the calendar year, with the black-humored, doom 'n' gloom Goth of Type O Negative? Fans can inject a little fun into the drudgery that is holiday shopping, courtesy of Type O!

typeoRoadrunner Records will release a special vinyl box set exclusively via independent retailers on Black Friday, which lands on November 25th this year. Go here for more information on who is selling this incredibly limited piece.

As the first band to achieve platinum status on the Roadrunner Records roster, Type O Negative didn't rewrite the rules. They simply tore the rule book up, burned what was left of it and did whatever the hell they wanted with the smoldering ash. The result was nothing short of brilliant, as they combined dirge-like doom with head down, gothy grooves, all the while retaining the sort of signature melody that made their songs utterly memorable, infesting your brain like a virus.

Of the box set, Type O’s Johnny Kelly said, “This looks great but we’re disappointed that Roadrunner couldn’t get it together to do the scratch ‘n’ sniff cover we wanted for The Origin of the Feces.”

The vinyl box includes all Roadrunner released Type O Negative material contained within one collector's box. Each album will be issued on double green vinyl, with the album art recreated, including the controversial, rarely seen original cover of The Origin of the Feces. Type O fans know all about that cover and the anatomy which it features.

Each album will also have new, branded liner notes documenting the genesis and completion of each album.

An exclusive sticker sheet with six mini bumper stickers will also be included in this "must own" set for Type O Negative diehards. It's an instant collector's item.

This set includes the following releases:

Slow, Deep and Hard - The Origin of the Feces - Bloody Kisses - October Rust - World Coming Down - Life Is Killing Me
