Crooked Eye Tommy joins some of the best blues talent around onstage for the 3rd Annual Lil' Easy Backyard Party, Saturday, September 19, at the Poor House Bistro, 91 S. Autumn St. in San Jose.

This is a benefit for the Stroke Awareness Foundation in remembrance of the Poor House Bistro's owner's mother, Sally Meduri. "Once a year this special two-day event offers an intimate beautiful setting. A big shade tent, wood dance floor, flowers on the tables, (and) tasty food and beverage. Seating is limited. The goal is to raise money for a great cause and make sure that everyone enjoys a comfortable environment", says the Poor House about this special event, which, in addition to Ventura, Calif. blues act Crooked Eye Tommy, also features such notables as Mitch Woods; the Chris Cain Band; Kim Wilson's Blues All-Stars; Rick Estrin & The Nightcats; and many others.

three picCROOKED EYE TOMMY and their new album "BUTTERFLIES & SNAKES"

Butterflies & Snakes are eleven memorable tunes penned by Crooked Eye Tommy front-person and band namesake Tommy Marsh and Tommy's brother, guitarist-vocalist, Paddy Marsh (who wrote and sings lead on "Come On In", "I Stole The Blues", and "Tide Pool"). Other C.E.T. members: Glade Rasmussen, bass; Tony Cicero, drums; Jimmy Calire, saxophone/piano/Hammond B3.

Featuring scorching performances and original music firmly rooted in traditional blues, which feels familiar but somehow new, Tommy Marsh’s considerable songwriting, vocal and guitar skills have made him a Ventura County favorite. Capitalizing on local talent, Tommy and his brother Paddy Marsh invited the legendary Jimmy Calire on sax and the deeply-grooved, driving rhythm section of Tony Cicero on drums and Glade Rasmussen on bass to join the effort. The result is an irresistible alchemy of veteran experience, raw talent and enthralling original material. Listen and feel what a Crooked Eye can do.

A Hollywood Rock Deep Purple Experience

Deep Purple: Live in SoCal

20658330922_4ac3124043_b

Live Performance Review by Steve Amaon: Contributing Journalist and Entertainment Photographer

Deep Purple made a return trip to southern California this year; I made it out to both shows. The Pacific Amphitheater hosted on August 12 and Fantasy Springs Casino hosted on August 15. Deep Purple have been on a world tour for almost two years in support of their newest CD, Now What?!.

20044986614_49ffd0d08e_bIan Paice, Roger Glover, Don Airey and Steve Morse were all at the top of their game at both shows. Ian Gillan was in good voice, his silver throated screaming days far behind him, he stilled pulled off excellent versions of classics…old and new. They opened with Highway Star (surprise…NOT!) and got things cooking right off the bat. Excellent sound at both venues and the lighting was top notch as well!

Classic tracks from In Rock, Fireball, Machine Head as well as Perfect Strangers were offered as were tracks from Rapture of the Deep and Now What?! The two standouts from the new cd that I thought really worked were Uncommon Man and Hell To Pay. Steve Morse brought the house down with his stunning instrumental, “Well Dressed Guitar”. Perfect Strangers and Smoke had everyone on their feet….phones in hand…..Hush with some interesting tidbits thrown in and Black Night, were the encore. Excellent musicians performing excellent songs equals a good time!

Xombiewoof Magazine as of today have gained the support of musical artists Rudy Sarzo, Bumblefoot, Joe Walla, Ronnie North, Parley, Black Valentine, 210ToLowell and many more.

Evolution Guitars, Custom Guitar Manufacturers has graciously added an incentive to this project. not so much a perk, but an added bonus to one lucky sponsor. Evolution Guitars will select at random from one of our sponsors to receive a Custom Guitar for FREE !!! - No Purchase Necessary - all you have to do is sponsor this project! But we have to meet our goal by 75%, so share this, help us get funded and you could possibly get more than expected.

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/xombiewoof-records-black-winter-compilation/x/6868336#/story

Xombiewoof Magazine started bringing the music loving public reviews, interviews and stories about the musical world 7 years ago, then 1 year ago formed Xombiewoof Records, a small run boutique label to bring unsigned artists into the light of day, it's been great but now we want to do more for the world. We have done many fundraisers with great success to help children's charities, this year we, with the help of some fantastic Musical Artists, we will create the ultimate Heavy Metal Compilation Album!

With the help of Music Instrument companies, Promoters, and the bands themselves, as well as help from big name nationally known artists, we will bring out an arsenal of Heavy Metal Hits, 20 songs in total from 20 bands on 2 Vinyl albums that will get the earth shaking, all in the name of helping children with life threatening illnesses.

Childhood Diseases can occur at any time in a child's life, and often, the families do not have the resources to act in time, we look to change that with Black Winter, our Fundraising Album!

One of the many things we at Xombiewoof Magazine do is support charities that help children; the fact is childhood disease claims the lives of 1 out of every 100 children in America and the rest of the world in fatality and 2 out of every hundred in crippling or painful events that last a lifetime. Xombiewoof Magazine wants to help change that, we want to make it our goal, with your help, to make the future a brighter place for those that have been stricken with illness that, if detected and treated early, don’t have to be a death or living death sentence. So often do you get messages to donate but don’t see any reward, so we have come up with a plan to help them and make it a benefit for you. The “Black Winter Project” is where we get donations through the fundraiser, you get a premium for your donation and once we have produced the album, the proceeds from the album will be given to the charities we support. The premiums or “Perks” range from small gifts to a limited edition copy of the finished album. We have the support of artists all over the United States and several foreign countries that are donating a song to the album, 20 tracks for a 2 record set. You may ask why he title “Black Winter”, well because its METAL!, Heavy Metal is a musical medium with a message of hope, through the expression of the soul and it gets you motivated to do what you believe in, SURVIVE the hardships and be victorious!

The charities we support are St. Jude’s Hospital, The American Cancer Foundation, The Central Coast Diabetes Foundation, The Heartbeat4Kids Program and The Fender Foundation.

Black Winter is planned to be the biggest collection of independent hard rock and metal artists on one 2 record set, gathering music from the US and around the world, with guest artists from nationally known bands lending their talents, Black Winter will be the one to have in your collections. This album will be limited to 2000 copies on Black / White Marbled Vinyl with 8 x 11 mini posters from every band involved and a Black Winter T-Shirt.

FEISTY PIRANHAS RELEASE CD / 2 DVD REMEMBRANCE OF LATE FRONT PERSON, PETER ALEX LUST

Paying tribute to the passing of Peter Alex Lust, onetime front-man, lead guitarist and vocalist of popular Los Angeles rock band The Feisty Piranhas, Alex's dad, Peter Lust, is overseeing the posthumous release of two DVDs ("Feisty Piranhas - The PIRANHA Experience" (and) "Feisty Piranhas  - Live In Lasers") and one album ("Evil Monkey") dedicated to the lasting memory of the younger Lust (Street Date: January 15, 2015).

The DVDs will contain ten bonus documentaries approximately three-ten minutes in length about Peter Alex Lust's life and performances before he passed.

Both the DVDs and CD will be available for sale at www.feistypiranhas.com. 100% of the proceeds will go to Peter Alex Lust's foundation, The Music Foundation For The Memory  of Peter Alex Lust III. The new album was mastered at the famed Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood, California.

THE FEISTY PIRANHAS - SOME BACKGROUND

There’s no misnomer here, as the Feisty Piranhas lived up to their name in the music, stage presence, and personality.

A pop punk, rock, and reggae band hailing from Ventura County, California, Feisty Piranhas brought a vivacious and spunky energy to the music scene, both on stage and off.

Started by father/son drummer and guitarist duo Peter Lust, Jr. and Peter Alex Lust III in 2002, the band made quite a splash, winning numerous recognitions and awards –  “Showcase Artist of the Year” at the 20th Annual Los Angeles Music Awards, with Peter Lust also nabbing the LAMA's "Rock Drummer of the Year". They were selected a “Top 100 Unsigned/Independent Artist for 2008” by respected national trade publication, MUSIC CONNECTION, in their year-end December issue.

The high-energy band brought a hard, loud, and fast sound to the stage, favorably compared to groups as diverse as Green Day and NOFX, Rush, and even Pink Floyd. It's no wonder that the Feisty Piranhas were invited to play at world-renowned venues and opened for big name acts like punk stalwarts The Misfits and Dragonforce, as well as seminal rockers Blue Oyster Cult and The Tubes.

WHAT THE MEDIA SAID... ABOUT THE FEISTY PIRANHAS

VENTURA COUNTY REPORTER - “Feisty Piranhas are led on vocals and guitar by 24-year-old Peter Alexander Lust III and backed up by his father, Peter Lust (“Pops”), a spacecraft consultant by day and punk rock drummer by night. The show should make for an interesting audience mix as the more mature B.O.C. fans mingle with some feisty pop punkers in the pit.”

ROCKWIRED MAGAZINE - “Dark, moody, Socal punk/pop with unexpected flourishes."

VENTURA COUNTY STAR - “They bring so much energy...the band’s mix of blues-punk-hard rock guitar, progressive rock drumming, emotional vocals, and razor sharp clarinet harmonies creates a new breed of songs that are catchy but also have true emotion and musical attitude that are supported by Peter Alex’s lyrics".

ALL ACCESS MAGAZINE - "Feisty Piranhas have a very melodic but in-your-face sound that mixes punk, reggae, ska, and pop punk…at The Key Club the band were able to play to the crowd’s needs and gained new fans with their Sublime-ish/reggae-ish tone of music. Even the hard rockers were clapping to the band's groove, finishing it off with a solid cover of Guns N’ Roses “Sweet Child O’ Mine.”

WEST HOLLYWOOD PATCH - “The Feisty Piranhas came down from Ventura County to spread the concept of community and integrity throughout the independent music scene as well as to properly rock out an eight‐song set…the band put on a valiant display, serving as the perfect appetizer for FEAR's eight‐course beating.”

If he could speak from Heaven, the young Lust - a mere 24 when he unexpectedly passed away in January 2014 - might now be saying, "I come down to you though my father. Thank you for thinking of me.

I am alive in a different place and I am watching down on all of you. Keep your wills high, I am an angel now. An angel that is keeping over all of my friends and those who care and think of the spirit I left behind.

Do not for a second believe that nothing is here, it is bustling with sprints and Angels that care for all of you on what we call earth. God does bless you".

Colette Miller Giving the World Wings

By Mike Ritchie

1395967_10152487420963178_5303108641397213773_n-1Colette Miller (www.facebook.com/colettemiller9?fref=ts) has been spreading her spirit and talent via the painting palate for many years. Creating her own work inspired by dreams, animals, life and other worthy causes she’s involved in. Since the early 90’s she’s painted animals on everything from bridges to walls to business trucks from Virginia to New York, California to Africa and Tanzania but the art that’s really ‘taken flight’ has been her signature angel wings https://www.facebook.com/colettemillerartist . There’s no bull in her ‘wings’, but they are in high demand across the world as everyone from tourists, locals, businessmen and celebrities want a piece of her brush stroke.

Her art has been influenced by many cultures including the Middle East, Europe, China, Tibet, Africa (where she painted a mural for an orphanage) and the Americas. She finds vast emotional, physical, mental stimulus and inspiration in the surrounding environment and her hand spreads the ideas across the canvas. She’s painted since childhood, making her designs reflect the peace of the composition’s subject and colors. The spiritualism used in its creation and found in its projection is a driving force in her desire to create a mystical remembrance.

Her angelic talent has caught the attention/interest of artistic minds from Kenya, West Virginia, Virginia, LA, Sydney and Washington DC with future work scheduled for New York and a recent trip to Australia commissioned by Arts Brookfield earned her seven spots at major properties in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney which were on display throughout October. A Nairobi Kenya boxing association named their team Koyale Wings Miller after her art.

Colette-Miller-Wings-2The creation of her art can come from oil based mediums, or acrylic paint for the wings, on top of canvas, paper or wood with UV paint sunscreen, varnishes and sometimes placed on adhesive vinyl when pieces need to be removed. But there’s no limit to what she’ll use if there’s a need to expand. She also makes sure her work is durable so it’ll last outdoors against the elements.

She’s populated the world with around 30 pairs so far, from her current residence fittingly The City of Angels to the impoverished walls of Nairobi. She’s painted in some rough neighborhoods, intent to make her art instill feelings of safety and hope against the most barren and desolate backgrounds.

Her first pair was inspired from a need she saw in society to repel negativity in the spring of 2012 and by July she’d completed them. The collective message of each pair in part says “we can be angels in this world and the good in humanity.” They are at face value and in detail nice, pleasant images, unique to look at and full of abstraction and real symbols of peace. Life sized so people can stand between them and feel good about themselves, angelic, protected or all three. Her first two creations were graffiti art, though illegal, garnered positive attention from the community inspiring many to take spontaneous pictures with them and as more were made posting pictures on social media. After taking a movable pair to the Autumn Lights Festival and exposing them to a larger audience she was granted permission for a Main Street display by mutual friend Joe Moller via TK Nagano. She also received attention from the LA Mayor who came out, took photos and became a supporter.

Hungry_PandaHer animal art comes from oils and canvas and a meditative compensation she receives from her mind and life experiences as an impressionist. She characterizes herself as a colorist, letting the different shades harmonize with themselves. Her pieces include Alien on a Plane with Crows, Crows on a Fence, Flying Pink Pig, and China’s Hungry (Panda in a Bamboo Forest).

She’s also looked into the camera’s eye veering into editing and producing for projects on water shortage in Burkina Faso, eco-news in Tibet and sustainable fishing in Alaska. Also presently in post is a film on corruption in Kenya. She also paints sets for TV and movies in LA.

For those familiar with the band GWAR, Miller has early musical ties to the band of dressed up monster players and gore-fed, spewing noise makers. From 1986-87, she embraced playing Amazina aka GWAR Girl, after sharing the stage briefly with Heather Broome aka The Temptress, who left in 1986, she was the sole female in the group in the early days of the original band performing on stage. Working construction to survive, enduring mother-nature’s wrath and cold showers while the band was living in the old dairy plant turned warehouse, the Milk Bottle, in Richmond Virginia she studied/worked on art, attending VCU. While attending university she also played keyboards in MILK, a spontaneous performance art band with Jim Thompson, Ron Curry, Tom Harris, Mark Linkous and Dave Brockie aka the voice of GWAR, Oderus Urungus. Miller along with the others did double duty a few times when Milk opened for GWAR putting the GWAR garb on directly after. Later on in ‘87 personal differences caused Miller to leave.

Screen_Shot_2014-09-20_at_10.58.36_AMEarlier this year in March Brockie passed away from an accidental heroin overdose closing the 50 billion year run of his alter ego and the sole original member, ending an era and leaving the bands future unknown. A private service was followed by a public memorial held at Hadad’s Lake in Richmond with fans, friends and former band members including Miller paying their respects, ending with a Viking funeral send off to the Oderus Urungus costume and character. Miller recently created a pair of wings for the GWAR tribute show in LA featuring rare footage, drawings, costume designs and band tour shirts covering the 1990-1994 era(Miller was in South Africa during that time) with photos by former slave pit girl Melanie Mandl.

Screen_Shot_2014-09-23_at_10.10.17_AMMiller has very cherished memories of Brockie and the bands beginnings. Each era of GWAR had chapters and hers was the most vintage and less raunchy and bloody. She joked “I was in the rated G version” if that’s possible. She’s seen the evolution/reinvention of characters that have kept the band and its legacy going strong. He was and still is very popular and fondly remembered in Richmond as he is around the world. Thirty years later, she’s happy to see a female member take an active front stage, vocal position. Michael Bishop aka Blothar was chosen as Urungus’s successor accompanied by the first female presence since 2000, Vulvatron aka Kung Fu Dyke Kim Dylla. Miller saw the band for the first time in years earlier this month at the House of Blues and was impressed with the costumes and music. She also has a pair of wings in front of the venue.

Vulvatron and her large prosthetic blood spewing breasts made their debut this year at Riot fest in Chicago. The slave pit will never be the same. Though the two represent complete different era’s, Vulvatron as a strong, empowered female role showcases the ascension and prominence of women in the once all male dominated world of metal. It remains to be seen if all the scumdogs of the universe accept an Oderus-less GWAR and their new gor-i-fied reigning queen. Miller will always hold dear and sacred the original inspiration and spirit of what a ragtag bunch of art-school students started as an oddity in the mid-eighties in a cold milk bottle shaped warehouse that spawned and spanned a 30 year history.

Miller’s wings have become her trademark, recently transcending mediums into stained glass. Her next upcoming project will be a trip to Juarez Mexico for four pairs promoting messages of hope for humanity and it’s revitalization against drug cartels and violence. She’ll continue making them as long as there’s a demand, desire, need and a personal calling to create them while giving the world hope.

Album Review: Rosa’s Lounge by Howard and the White Boys

howard and the white boysHoward and the White Boys: Chicago’s favorite Sons, a Cool Breeze in the Windy City.

Album Review by Joseph Timmons: Xombiewoof Magazine

Howard & the White Boys, founded by Howard McCullum (Vocals, Bass), Jim Christopulos (Drums), Rocco Calipari(Guitar), Pete Galanis (Guitar), was formed in 1988 and began jamming together just for fun, but their fast-growing popularity soon convinced them they could make a career of it. Their reputation grew in Chicago and after a short period of times, and many great gigs, they got their first big break by opening for B.B. King. Soon after, they began performing with the biggest names in blues: Koko Taylor, Otis Rush, Albert King, Junior Wells, Lonnie Brooks, Luther Allison, Bo Diddley, and Chuck Berry. Howard and the White Boys sing the blues and live a musically charmed life to a loyal fan base that grows with every performance they play.

Rosa's Lounge, the most recent offering, is named after the legendary Chicago club where the band's new CD was recorded. Captured live on one of those magical nights where the crowd and band are both fueled with energy and passionate revel. Howard and the White Boys play one of its best sets ever, proving they are one of the best live Blues bands to grace the nighttime stage.

Rosa's Lounge has been touted as a favorite of many music critics and those in the know, The Chicago Sun-Times recently said "You can't see this high-energy, good time band at a club without leaving with a smile on your face." The band is now focusing on touring to support the new CD and working on material for their next one.

10547871_10152558471825126_6816071247082531312_o

Rosa's Lounge is an expression of human experience, songs of love, loss and all that lay between, Howard and The White Boys hit the nail on the head with this album, precision performance and a creative composition that makes this a great Live album to not only listen to, but you can’t help but want to sing along. This album is captivating and solid, with reverence to the Blues but a thoroughly light hearted approach. Rosa's Lounge speaks volumes in every song, from the powerful opening track Heat Seeing Missile to the 11th track That’s Alright, Rosa's Lounge is pure live excitement, Howard and the White Boys have certainly made their soft feathery bed of impassioned harmonious bliss, the Blues have been good to these fortunate sons of the Chicago music scene, in this “City on the Make”.

The Colourflies Have the Loudest Buzz and the World is wanting!

12224_10204494962195425_1901622066736892881_n

What’s The BUZZ with Shanea Speidel

Shanea Speidel, Video Reporter and Correspondent for BUZZTV

Contributing Writer for Xombiewoof Magazine

The Colourflies, I met this band almost a year and a half ago. I drove to Idaho to see what the big hype was over this band. I pulled up to a large old house that had a parking lot that was packed. As I made my way into the unfurnished grungy place pushing my way through bodies to get down some steep cement stairs where the music was coming from, this band was putting off a lot of good energy. I stood back watched and listened as the young crowd sang, danced and jumped up and down to the music. I thought this band is great. After the show they asked me to go to Denny's with them and about 25 of their fans.

Of course I went so I could get a feel of who these artists were off the stage. Well the fun never stops with this band. They are just as entertaining off the stage as on. They are corky, funny, worry free and very energetic. They love to play and people love to go see them. In fact, The Colourflies name is spreading so fast, when I had flown into Washington a few months ago, they were there getting ready for a big show. Read what they have to say, their personality comes through in their answers. I think you will love them and their music.

485278_532722833414731_1890360639_nLadies and Gentlemen, THE COLOURFLIES

SHANEA: What type of band are you?

MATT: We're an anything kind of band; we play whatever intensity or genre we feel like. SCOTTY: We have been called college rock, we've been called alternative, grunge, pop punk. The variety of music we play really creates a style of its own. MADDIE: I'd say we are alternative rock with pop influences. NICK: I think we are a rock band with hooks. If they played this type of music on the radio anymore, I would say that is where we would be.

10653311_791969304156748_7040952485488211124_nSHANEA: Tell us the brief history of your band.

MATT: I wanted to start a band, and I started playing with a drummer from my school named Josh, while demoing all the songs I would do with him, with a guy named Adam down the street and when Josh didn't want to do it anymore, Adam and I had a nice repertoire of songs already, Then I got my best gal pal to play bass. SCOTTY: a long time ago far, far away, there was this fly unlike the other flies. He was colorful. He buzzed in Harmony with 3 other flies, traveling town to town. Even with some flies getting swatted along the way, more came to join... MADDIE: Well, I haven’t been in the band for long. Less than a month, really, I know that Mayde and Adam used to be in the band, and now I’m in it. Matt’s been working really hard on it. NICK: Though I was not an original member, I did name the band. That is really the only history that is important. Unless you think the name sucks, in which case, Matt came up with it.

SHANEA: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

1506963_424906900973483_1841976341_nMATT: Music influences are everything from the Beatles to Avail to Sunny Day Real Estate. Some stuff is very heavily new wave influenced, Tears for Fears, and Talking Heads and the like, while some is 70's laden Rock, and some is more of the Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins, Dinosaur JR. Posies, Ginblossoms, Foo Fighters and The Lemonheads. SCOTTY: Some of my musical influences include, Tommy Lee, Marty Friedman, Chevelle, Mastodon, Wheezer, Gin Blossoms, and Dr. Hook. I guess “non-musically” I would have to say Richard Nixon, Seth McFarlane, and Michael Cera. MADDIE: Oh man, I really like Grimes and Spazzkid, and artists like that. The odd synth-y sounds and polyrhythms inspire me a lot, and I like the floating melodies that bedroom-mixers come up with. I also like St.Vincent and Joni Mitchell, because I relate to their lyrics a lot. Grimes influences me beyond music, too. NICK: I love the music of the 60s and 70s: The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, etc. There was just something about music that was different than it is today. I don’t want to be super douchey and say, “It was so much more real and organic,” but there you go.

SHANEA: What are your dreams and goals?

MATT: My aspirations for this band are to be able to fully express myself and reach people who feel the same way I do. SCOTTY: My overall dream/goal is to successfully go across the country sharing music, and meeting more fans. MADDIE: My dream is to make it big with my voice, and make a difference in the lives of people. There are so many problems in the world that I feel too small to tackle alone. If I were to get recognition through my music and writings, and make a difference with those, I’d be the happiest person alive. I also hope to be a good person for my little sister to look up to.

10502034_812910912062587_8223887795361126547_nSHANEA: Who writes the songs, what are they about?

MATT: We all sort of write the songs, I usually come up with the basic idea and bring it to the band, and they come up with parts and add their personality to it. Well the Songs on this record, which we're still recording, range from your typical boy meets girl falls in love, to zany conspiracy theories, and alien abduction, as well as murder, child abuse, indie superiority, sexual fetishism, and being away from a loved one. SCOTTY: Matt writes the songs, I will usually write the leads, each member will contribute to the song, and the meaning? I guess it's really up to your interpretation, why don't you tell me? MADDIE: We all contribute to writing songs, but Matt comes up with most of the main bits in my opinion. He and I recently wrote a song, and my parts are about letting go of people who weigh me down in life. NICK: Matt writes the music. What I respect about his songwriting is that he really does progress and evolve. I’ve been around since the first demos for this band were written and it is really a whole other band now. He isn’t afraid to take some off the wall chances with instrumentation and arrangement. I respect always trying to do something different. End of ass kissing.

10155192_720501217970224_396315168195838586_nSHANEA: What's your opinion of George Bush?

NICK: think the easiest thing in the world is to shit all over George Bush. I don’t agree with his ideology or many of the decisions he made while in office, but he was president during an extremely difficult time in our nation’s history and he did what he thought was best for this country. I’m not one of those people that think I know the way to handle every problem that this country is faced with. I can’t imagine how hard it is to be president and to make the decisions he had to make. I respect that he stands by the decisions he made while he was in office when the easy thing to do would be to back-peddle on them after all the criticism. He has also done a lot of good since he got out of office. I’m not going to trash him, time to move on.

SHANEA: How do you promote your band and shows?

1660835_424906997640140_42397559_nMATT: Typically we just post about it on our page, but depending on the size of the show, we've been known to do some publicity stunts to get people charged up. We've given people the option to pick the covers we play, and we've done commercials and stuff like that. MADDIE: I spread word on Facebook, Tumblr, and Instagram, and if people ask me what I’m up to with my life, I tell them about the band. I recently had a customer come into my work, and he asked what I do, and I told him about the band, and he plans to be at our show next Friday!

SHANEA: Describe your show, visual and musically.

MATT: Our Show is basically a you see is what you get vibe, There are nights when we suck, but we're having so much fun, that it's almost a moot point, but there are shows where we're great and all on the same page and the doves cry and the angels descend. Musically the most important thing is getting emotion across, and intensity and energy. We've been called one of the most energetic bands in our area and it kind of sticks with you for every show. SCOTTY: The shows are really just energy, the music is fun happy music you can dance or mosh to. The visual performance is a lot of jumps on stage, a lot of togetherness; we all connect on stage, that's for sure! Maddie: Energetic. Each of us brings our own energy to the shows. NICK: Energy. We don’t dress up or use gimmicks. We just play music and hopefully the energy we put into it connects with people.

SHANEA: What do you think about downloading music online?

MATT: I think that if you have people wanting to download your music, you should appreciate it. We put all of ours up for free, unless we're doing a charity thing for a single or something. SCOTTY: Sucks for the label who gets 80 cents to the dollar of the song, but I have a system of a down view on it, take the songs for free, just remember to buy the merch, and tickets NICK: I absolutely love owning the physical copy of an album whether it be on CD or vinyl. It is the experience of the whole package that really makes a great record, but that being said, I generally don’t have any problem with it. It opens up people to music that they may have otherwise not listened to. Whether that leads to them picking up the record in the store or going to see the band in concert, I think it has a positive effect. Obviously like anything else it can be abused, but I believe that people that really love and care about music come by it legally.

SHANEA: What's your outlook on the record industry today?

MATT: I don't think it truly caters to its clients, as much as it caters to fans being able to spend money for the artists they represent. I've read countless stories of labels screwing over their artists, from everyone to The Beatles, which is referenced in the beginning of Abbey Road medley cut, "You Never Give Me Your Money" to David Bowie with the "Let's Dance" record, and Green Day with their first two records. SCOTTY: The music industry can be sickening, the bands with real talent usually fall short of those with real Auto-tune, there was once a time when making music for a living was about more than money drugs and fame. Those still can't with the package, but they weren't the whole deal. MADDIE: I don’t know enough about it to really have an opinion. There are some really good companies that build up independent artists, and I like that. But for the most part, I think that the industry is too focused on one kind of sound. It’s boring.

SHANEA: What's your claim to fame?

MATT: Probably opening up for the Meat Puppets. MADDIE: My voice. I’ve been singing since I was 11, and I’m in a jazz group at my college.

10483190_738466819549701_8801531005885379426_n SHANEA: Tell us a story about a day in your life.

MATT: I decorated my new guitar with stick on spiders yesterday, and then I fell asleep and had a dream that I lived in a basement with Hobo Spiders that would crawl around, and then My step mom drove me to go sign up for the Illuminati. I realized when I woke up that I actually used to live in the unfinished basement in my dream, and that Hobo Spiders did frequent regularly, It was all a real memory, except for the Illuminati thing. MADDIE: found out that one of my exes was going to flee the country recently, and it made me sad because he used to be my best friend. I thought about how much it scared me that he was going to make such a terrible decision, and I think that I realized in that moment that I really can’t change people or make decisions for them. It was a big shift for me. NICK: wake up, fall out of bed and drag a comb across my head. I find my way downstairs and drink a cup until I look up and notice that I’m late. Then I find my coat and grab my hat so I can make the bus in seconds flat. I then find my way upstairs and have a smoke and somebody speaks and I go into a dream.

SHANEA: What inspires you to do what you do?

MATT: The need to exceed my own expectations of what I can do, and that I love playing. NICK: I love music.

10306463_804194912934187_3466058467404109343_nSHANEA: What advice would you give to fellow bands?

MATT: If you want to play, do it, but don't compromise, If you feel something, say it, if you tear shit up or down, do it. Don’t be pristine, because that's what everyone wants you to be, and don't be dirty just because it's cool. MADDIE: Keep trying, and stay true to your sound. Even if you aren’t popular at first, there are going to be diehards that love you no matter what. NICK: Don’t suck. You piss me off when I go see you and you suck. I know all art is subjective, but seriously, don’t suck.

SHANEA: What are some of your pet peeves?

MATT: Holier than thou, people and bands. Moreover, People that are actually calling themselves hipsters and dressing like hipsters and listening to the worst atmospheric bull shit you've ever heard, I don't care what you listen to in your spare time, but don't tell me it's cool, when you and I both know you're trying to fit in with the guy wearing a sweater vest pouring your java.

SHANEA: How does music affect you and the world around you?

MATT: I listen to music from the second I wake up, to the minute I go to sleep, it’s the gospel. Music can make people dance, cry, and laugh, and no one can ever take it away from you. There's been times when all I've had was music, and it was the only thing I had to look forward to in my life. SCOTTY: Music affects everyone; music is the only logical explanation for sanity since the beginning of homosapien creation. NICK: Everyone loves music. I met all of my friends through music. It is universal.

SHANEA: What's new in the recording of your music?

MATT: Quality! We released our first record and managed to move 500 copies, and sell out in our local record store, and I listen to it and I just feel like it's such a big embarrassment. This record is really good, and really honest, parts of it make me really uncomfortable, Like the second song on the record, "My Buddy" and a song that's out and out angry towards a specific demographic called "Causal Rock" and a song we're all really excited about called "Bat Face" also this is actually a concept record that is about 23 songs long, and called Kid Tested, Mother Approved. All the songs have a child like sense of melody as long as being written to be as catchy as nursery rhymes from you were a kid. SCOTTY: New studios. New sound, even new instruments are what you can expect for the next newest recordings. NICK: The Lineup.

SHANEA: What are the biggest obstacles for bands?

1609619_723621827658163_1346873931242199995_nMATT: Not breaking up, part of the reason that we're in the position that we're in is that we've remained a band. Members have come and gone, but they've all left their mark, for better or for worse. MADDIE: In this town, lack of venues, In general, insecure people. Some people won’t listen to a new band because it’s not what their friends think is cool, or it’s not “their typical genre.” That insecurity makes it hard for different music to get a real break.

SHANEA: What's the best and worst thing about playing clubs?

MATT: The Worst thing is the space and the temperature, The best thing is the space and the temperature. When there are more people in a tiny space, the shows are more fun, also our band tends to explode in a small space. SCOTTY: The worst part about playing clubs is usually the drunken people, always telling us to play free bird.

SHANEA: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there

MATT: Our next show is in a place called Underground 15, and we've never been there before, but we were booked by Unconfined, You should be there because, we're debuting three new songs which we're going to go record and release as a single called the Holy Trinity, The songs we'll be doing at Crabwalk studios, which I hear Slayer recorded at, are Causal Rock, Bat Face, and Nickelodeon. Stay Tuned! Thanks! MADDIE: We have a show at a new venue in Spokane on Friday the 5th! You should be there because it’s our first show with me as an official member, and it’s a new venue. And we have brand new songs that will be on our record NICK: Because Brad Pitt will also be there. Do you really want to say you missed the show with Brad Pitt?

Didn’t think so.
