Not since ZZ Top and Stevie Ray Vaughn has there been a band that could wind a mean bar room boogie and bring the blues home like the Hornbuckle Brothers.

Michael & Brian Hornbuckle take their inherited skill and bring serious fire to the front house in Virtue & Vice, their latest, and what will probably be recognized as one of the best new independently produced albums of the year.

Hornbuckle, a self-described Blues/Rock/Soul band out of Denver CO, sells themselves short, better to be described as duet of Guitar Driven Power, their music is soaked with hard work, blood, at tears…. The result is an album that crosses the divide and could be loved by everyone that lends an ear.

HORNBUCKLE

The resurgence of blues oriented songwriting is not their style, listening to songs like “One Foot In The Grave”, “Beautiful Rain”, “Angels, Addicts, Poets and Thieves” and the title track “Virtue & Vice”, you know these two have traveled down the blues highway on a half a pack of cigarettes, a ¼ tank of gas and no spare in the trunk.

Hornbuckle is the real deal, no question about it.

No excuses given and no quarter taken, both barrels locked and loaded, Michael & Brian have started to make the name Hornbuckle synonymous with Rock & Blues.

Virtue & Vice is a triumph of musical mastery at its core, and I recommend this to your musical collection highly.

Album Review: Reality by John Enghauser

JOHN_ENGHAUSER_REALITY_CD_COVER_ARTJohn Enghauser offers a not so harsh but true, and a very rewarding Reality.

Album Review: Reality by John Enghauser

The music of John Enghauser is pure grass roots blues, infused with rock and roll beats, just a pinch of swagger in the rhythm and a hint of jazz in his voice. Few musicians can be as self-assured as John and not come off as “cocky” in their music. In today’s music industry, the studios of America are filled with singer / songwriters that are “A legend in their own minds”, but this man has it down solid.

John Enghauser has created in Reality an album of original scores to life’s everyday moments. Like in the title track, “Reality”, wanting to be someone memorable in a person’s life is a shared desire in us all, that’s what he has created in this album, making his mark in every note and every beat of his songs.

photo-1Not to be confused with a-typical “Guitar Rock”, his performance gives “equal billing” to the other musicians and instruments in the mix, creating an album with full, rich and well balance composition. His playing is at times light and quick, while simultaneously alluring, dark and rich. he creates mixes of complicated rhythms and soulfully sonic grooves that ripple throughout the album as it glows with an electricity that is not often found in a studio, but only in live performances.

Reality by John Enghauser is an intellectual and introspective album, which is always refreshing in an industry that gets washed in self-importance, John is an everyday man, I would suspect his influences would be artists like Santana, Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Steely Dan or Al Di Meola, but vocally, he sounds like a cross between the soul inspired styles of Gordon Lightfoot or Richie Havens with a hint of Paul Simon’s Humor.

Either way, a great album full of stirring and memorable songs that could be just the thing to share with the one you love on a romantic evening, to listen to on a rainy day or while holding your child’s hand, simply breathtaking!

Step into John Enghauser’s Reality and be swept away into a better day.

Queensrÿche Prepares for New Album

A Reinvigorated Queensrÿche Starts the Writing Process for Their New Album, Tentatively Due Early Summer 2015 via Century Media Records

With the Queensrÿche canvas wiped completely clean and the band's easel the strongest and most stable it's been in years, Eddie Jackson, Todd LaTorre, Parker Lundgren, Scott Rockenfield and Michael Wilton forge ahead to create yet another QR masterpiece. The band has already begun writing new material for the follow up to their critically acclaimed self-titled 2013 Century Media Records release, Queensrÿche. The new album is tentatively scheduled for release in early summer 2015.

"The Queensrÿche internal dynamic has certainly changed in terms of musicianship. It's more of a cohesive team and the chemistry we have now is making what we can do creatively limitless. For Queensrÿche, it was always about being able to write together as a band. We didn't have that for a long time but now that it's back, we feel extremely liberated," states founding guitarist Michael Wilton.  "We've already begun the writing process for the next album and have a few songs demoed that we feel really good about. We're taking the songs in the classic Queensrÿche direction but maybe a little more progressive and heavier at times. The thing is, you never know what you really have until it's complete. We can't wait for the final outcome. Writing with such a dynamic group of individuals has been nothing short of amazing."

Queensrÿche is: Todd La Torre – Vocals, Michael Wilton – Guitars, Parker Lundgren – Guitars, Eddie Jackson – Bass and Scott Rockenfield – Drums
