Made in American Makes America Shine like Glass - Unbreakable

Made in American Makes America Shine like Glass - Unbreakable

CD Review: Ladysman by Lance Glass

By Joseph Timmons – Xombiewoof Magazine

ladysmanINS(1)Ladysman, the newest offering by Lance Glass is strong and bluesy album, that is rich with personal conviction.

Lance has struck it big with a selection of songs the reflect a man with strength and honor, and a belief that real man stands up to the world. If it seems like I am gushing or on a trip of wax poetic, I really like this album, homespun rock and soul, full of jazzy riffs and blues based beats and back rhythms. But like the title of the first track of this red white and true album, “Do I need a Reason” to love this cd?

Each song is a story unto themselves, coming to life in the ears and working towards the heart, Lance give tribute where it’s due and asks a question or two when needed. This album is a tribute to the real world, wanting and working towards a goal of a better life. Lance’s style reminds me of Eddie Money, Bruce Springsteen and Rick Springfield, the guy next door kind of person, the everyday man that wants to bring home the bacon and be able to pay the bills, a beer on Saturday night and good Baseball game or an evening out with the one true love.

The Track Titles: “Climbing up the Mountain”, “Made In America”, “Perfect Storm” Trapped”, “Can’t Help but Wonder”, “Firestorm”, ”Fortuneteller” and “Silently I Scream” - Lance reaches down and grabs a hold of the hand of a friend, and helps them up from the ground, Lance Glass is that Man we all want to be, Honest, Noble and Respected.  You can hear it in his music, and feel it in your bones.

I would like to personally thank Lance Glass for doing such a great job on this album, being a true Musician, Performer and American, you have done this industry a great service by recording this album, and I know that once our readers listen to it, they will love it to.

Reach out to Lance Glass at Http://www.lanceglass.com, on Facebook and as soon as I find out when, I will update this article to reflect his Videos.

While researching this, I learned that Lance, like myself, is a native New Yorker - I have a new Hometown Hero.

Good Day and God Bless.

Personal Note:

One track that stands out most to me is one titled “Don’t Want to have to Explain” which is a remembrance to the children of Sandy Hook Elementary that lost their young lives on December 14th, 2012. That day for me would never be forgotten, it was my 47th Birthday, a day where I and my loved ones were celebrating my life, several who had yet to learn what life was all about was losing theirs. Now that I have heard this song, I can say that there are some things that cannot be explained, and one should not have to. I feel, and I could be wrong, But this song gives me the impression that we need to stop coming up with excuses for the bad things that happen, and try to find a way to heal the pain and suffering, and make sure that this is not repeated, in this song Lance Glass gives those children and brave souls the respect they deserve.

Thank You Lance, for helping me with this song – Joseph Timmons

KILLCODE

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT - KILLCODE

killcodeI was turned on to this band by a great producer in NY, the infamous Stacy O'Dell, Man I Owe Him Big, Great Band, Give a Sound Check to KILLCODE.

KILLCODE is an sharp edge blade coming down on the necks of boring and lifeless “Metal” that appears on stages across a once rich land of high energy  music, with it’s perfect blend of southern rock and modern metal, KILLCODE stands to deliver an ass-whoopin’ and wakes you up hard and fast. I cant wait until their album release and look forward to hearing more. I advise you stay on their good side, don’t cross this tour de force of energy and attitude, unless you have a bunker and a whole lot of ammo. Seriously, this is a great sound and is long overdue for the stage. I had a chance to look up some info on their Reverb Nation page – here are the facts

KILLCODE is a five piece band based in New York City. Their unique sound is a product of their diverse influences and has been described as “Southern infused Metal / Rock with modern vocals”.

Forming in 2008, vocalist Tom Morrissey and guitarist Chas laid the foundation with a couple of songs they recorded at Chas’home studio. After recruiting long time musical companion Erric Bonesmith on bass guitar, KILLCODE found it’s final form with the addition of Pat Harrington on guitar and Rob Noxious on the drums. With all members coming from established projects prior to KILLCODE, the band quickly raised eyebrows and landed on bills with the likes of Godsmack & Sevendust.

KILLCODE also provided main support to Brett Scallions on the Re Fueled East Coast tour. Since their inception, the band has released “To Die For”, a six song EP released at the end of 2008 and a second six song EP,“Taking it All” released in 2010. Both EP’s charted well nationally and gained the band critical acclaim worldwide. The song “Breaking Away”, off of To Die For, was featured in the inspirational documentary, DRESSED, Directed by David Swajeski and starring fashion designer Nari Manivong.

In 2012, they entered the studio once again with Juno nominated producer, Stacy O’Dell, who produced both EP’s, to record the full length, twelve song effort titled, “KILLCODE”. The Album charted in the #2 position for the week of 8/18/12 on BILLBOARD Mid-Atlantic Heatseekers Charts.

The band has enjoyed an ever growing fan base has headlined and sold out marquee venues such as New York City’s Gramercy Theater, Bowery Ballroom and Irving Plaza. KILLCODE is at the top of their game and they are not showing any signs of slowing down. They are ready and able to take their rightful place alongside the biggest rock acts out there.

Album Review: The Carnival Kids–Skip and Frolic through fields of Audio Ecstasy

Music review by Joseph Timmons : Xombiewoof Magazine

Carnival Kids front art

NYC Indie Pop group The Carnival Kids has a hit with this album that has a richness and originality in a music scene that can be drenched in a “let’s all be different together” vibe. In an arena on consciousness where true individuality is lost among the trying to be popular and a groups reason to be is lost in the desire to be big, The Carnival Kids keeps the beat and has a creative and well composed inner child, which is brought out and exposed in a truth and vitality that could be envied.

Technically, the album is very well composed, mixed and is vibrant, energetic but not “pop-ish” and has an upbeat tempo that keeps it moving. This could be the best new indie album of this coming year. I especially liked the singer’s presence in the songs, not to far forward, giving the other elements of the music to shine through; backup vocals are harmonious to the measures of the richness and tone, overall well done. This group is easily in the same league as the Dave Mathews Band or Ben Folds Five, to be viewed as an independent force in their formative but fast evolving state. Influenced by groups such as the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Elvis Costello, Pink Floyd, and more, they have a great grasp on what sounds good. The music is natural, not over mixed or produced with an over polished feel, very “live and direct”.

The Carnival Kids

I found the songs did have a serious to them; some titles had a very deep message and need to be listened to fully grasp their importance. I have found some bands take themselves either too seriously lyrically and draw the listener down into whatever self-assuring therapy moment the vocalist may be having, or to the contrary, never take the time to address topics that are topical and have a social significance. The Carnival Kids, to me, seem to take things in an order of importance on this album, weaving a story in song, and this album, which could have easily been 2 albums, is a multi-track score to a life story worth a stage performance, a life musical for a musical life.

This album is fantastic, and should be in every collection as a tree house belongs in every yard and every child deserves an ice cream on a Sunday morning, The Carnival Kids show a definitive promise, and I find they have a great natural talent, from a group so young, they have a musical maturity of session musicians well beyond their years.

I will be keeping in touch with this band and follow their progress, definitely ones to watch for in the coming year, I think they would be a great group to see live. This is the self-titled debut album and available on band camp, sound cloud and the band can be found on Facebook. Links to their Video site on YouTube will also be found below.
