Forever in Wonder with Neverwonder

Album review of “Really Let It Out” by Neverwonder

Joseph Timmons: Xombiewoof Magazine

There is nothing more sensual than a woman singing from the heart, sharing her innermost feelings, her very soul with the listener. And whether it is soul, blues, R&B. or rock, a great singer can get the message home with the greatest measure. But what if I said there was a group that has a singer that can do all that and still belt out a “gut buster” without breaking a sweat!

Neverwonder, the band out of Los Angeles, CA, has taken hard rock, mixed it with R&B and soul, and has created an EP that has it all. The vocalist, Alima Soul is a powerhouse within herself: she has a soft, smooth and velvety voice, yet she’s not afraid to use it to let her real emotions come through within each song. She can sing with melody and dig down deep and make the hair on your arm stand tall in excitement. Alima is supported by great musicians on this album, Scott Ramsay on Guitars, Vincent and Andres Ramos on Bass Guitar and Drums, and the additional musical talents of Konrad Thompson and Art H. Hafen.

The music is performed on “Really Let It Out” is done with excellence, and it is a great album overall. For an EP that only has five songs in it, it is a great listen. They have created in this EP a taste of what they are capable of. I think that they have a lot to offer, and I feel that good things will come from this band.

The band excels in the soulfulness in which they play. They have a rich texture, a very gritty, not over-mixed, not over-sampled; it is just musicians playing music and the singer doing what she does best – belting out the lyrics with raw energy, full of life. No “namby-pamby”, or “wishy-washy” balladry songs that ooze out of the speakers and onto the floor, - this stuff is on fire, it jumps off the album and grabs you, it holds you, and it keeps your attention while you listen. I don’t suggest driving while listening to this album, because you are going to be all over the road.

“Really Let It Out”, for an album that’s self-produced it is amazingly well done and I would be hard pressed to find a producer that could say they could have done better, it is kept in a very strong and original state. I know that I tend to find positive in everything that I hear, but Neverwonder is destined for greatness. They have a rich sound, there are no hollow points, no drop out, and they keep it very real.
