Le Reverie [re-ve-ri] - a state of dreamy meditation or fanciful musing (www.dictionary.com).
There are albums with dark and gothic themes that speak of the deep hidden parts of one’s soul that is to be forgotten. Musical troubadours, who portray themselves as shadows that walk among us, detached voices to revile in our miseries or expose our sorrows. All too often they are nothing more than shock value visuals, costumes and forced dissonance that falls short of true talent and poetic verse.
I received Dark Symphony and found this collection of work to be a truly magnificent gem of musical composition . Le Reverie has taken traditional rock, gothic music, progressive metal, and classical symphonic stylings, and blended it into a perfect creation of emotionally stirring music.
The vocalist for the group, Allie Jorgen, has a classically trained voice taken to the limits. Allie gives a wonderfully sparkling performance in this album, bringing you spellbinding imagery in song that are as a siren’s call that draws ships in to the rocks on a merciless sea. She creates a vision within the music, her voice, which like a well-tuned instrument, resonates true. Everything blends together wonderfully. Well balanced and well mixed, this album shows the skills and talents of the artists involved.
This album with it’s strong hard rock tones, the non-traditional styling of gothic and progressive metal, is drawn in classical overtones creating a whirlwind of emotion . The performance value hits critical mass. I feel “Dark Symphony”, is a collection of songs that are introspective, soul-binding and hypnotic, this is actually an awakening, drawing from the darkness the seeds of life, giving the listener the feeling that, even things seem its darkest, there is hope.
If you are a fan of soundscapes, and you like albums that are themed (even though this does not appear to be a theme collection), this will delight you.
Included in the album is a performance DVD; it was fabulous. The imagery, the vision, the music are just amazing. I would say Le Reverie is definitely a band to watch, so if you have an opportunity to see them live, do so. “Dark Symphony” is definitely an album for your collection.
Some of the song titles that I found most enchanting are “Dark Symphony,” ‘Ghost of You,” “Hall of Mirrors,” “Dark Secrets” and, especially, “Truth and Lies.” This song really hit home. The vocalist has a rich passion to her voice, and it comes out through the music.
Speaking of the music itself… the guitars by Jeff Mallow and the bass guitar by Daniele De Cario have definitely created a musical masterpiece. The rhythms of the drums by Roc Boyum have impeccable timing. This man knows how to play drums, and he plays them well. Speaking as a drummer, I found myself tapping along and trying to keep up with him, - the man is a whirlwind. In addition, the highlighted pieces by the keyboardist Erwin Khachikian and the mysterious OG playing piano and keyboards fit in the scape perfectly. I would say that this album has the potential of being the cornerstone of this group’s career.
Al reviews of this band and their album have a common and universal message: Le Reverie has an extreme and highly valued talent, and this album is the one that you have to have.
