DVD Preview and Review - Wyatt Cenac: Comedy Person

Article first published as DVD Review - Wyatt Cenac: Comedy Person on Blogcritics.

Uncensored and Uncut, Wyatt Cenac is a comedic personality that requires attention.

Growing up in the 60’s and 70’s, I watched many variety shows and comedy shows like Flip Wilson, The Richard Pryor Comedy Hour, Laugh-in and The Smothers Brothers. I have seen comedians who covered a wide range of topics from humorous personal stories to social / political events that inspired their monologues and gave them their path to our homes and hearts.

In the years that have gone by, true comedic wit has given way to a barrage of senseless filth and foul language than does not give credit to the craft. I find that in today’s entertainment industry, it takes pure talent to be able to get past the, and excuse my frankness, the “fart jokes” and “dunce cap” mirth, and Comedy Central has found this humor of intelligent design in Wyatt Cenac.

Wyatt Cenac makes his move from television news correspondent on The Daily Show to center stage in his first-ever stand-up special for DVD release. In a live performance at the Skirball Center for Performing Arts in New York, Wyatt Cenac gets real and talks about hilarious topics, like his obsession with internet cat videos, the future of the “Medieval Times” restaurant chain, life in the New York, the unwritten rules for growing up black, the Tea Party and why TV is the best roommate to have.

In this very funny presentation, Wyatt Cenac takes us through the paces of trying to make sense of senseless acts and making our way in a world that is more interested in how we are perceived than how we really are. Through the use of a finely tuned sense of humor and perfectly timed punch lines, Wyatt proves he is a “Comedy Person”

Wyatt Cenac: Comedy Person will be released in the US on DVD, download-to-own on multiple services including iTunes, Amazon Video on Demand and in high definition on Xbox LIVE Marketplace by Comedy Central Home Entertainment. An audio CD by Comedy Central Records will also be available.

Wyatt Cenac worked for three seasons as a writer on FOX's popular animated show, "King of the Hill" while performing stand-up and improvisational comedy with the Upright Citizens Brigade. In 2008 Wyatt Cenac starred in the film, Medicine for Melancholy, Wyatt Cenac is currently a writer, contributor and correspondent on The Daily Show
